I know VMPS used thicker wood on the front, as they're subject to the direct force of the driver(s). But, these are big home speakers, so a different animal.

Equal and opposite, so that makes sense as well as the back, kinda just ignored the front until now lol. Anyway, we should probably stop crowding OP's problem with technicals :D:p

2 ohm or 4 ohm version?
    What is your source unit?
What did you set the output voltage to?
What is your low pass set at?
Did you isolate the cabinet to prevent cab/seat back vibration?
Did you check clearance for excursion?

    It's 2 ohm
    There is sufficient excursion clearance
Isolated box from back of truck
Head unit is a sony XAV-AX3000
Don't know what output voltage is at
Think the low pass on the head unit is set at 80 hz

The bass is loud and clear when it's more of a drawn out note but once it has to hit sharp and clean, it just farts

All good man. Appreciate the help. Just haven't had time to dive Into it again and it's been pretty cold outside.. so other warm things I prefer to do

What wattage is your amp capable of?
    Do you have a multimeter?
You could be over driving the amp into distortion, by not knowing the output voltage.

It's a jl audio jd250/1. Probably seeing 200w to the sub at 12v which the sub it totally capable to handle. I have the gain turned down quite a bit to. It has a sensitivity adjustment which I tried as per their instructions but I could barely get it to light (clipping ring LED) up as 3/4 volume on the deck is going to blow the crap out of the speakers

You need to set it to your sub, not its own max output. P = V^2/R
You know P and R, so set a test tone like 100Hz since it's for a sub, and measure RMS voltage. Turn the pre-amp/head unit volume to the max. Set the gain (voltage) so that P is equal to your sub's max RMS.

    V = sqrt(P*R)

Once you set the max this way, the only adjustment needed is down.

Hopefully you didn't already blow the voice coil. And clipping is not ever something you want.

First, do you have a multimeter or not?

Ok, and which model of the 10W1v3 did you get? How many ohms?

    Ok, so plugging that in: V = sqrt(P*R) => V = sqrt(300W * 2ohm) = 24.5V (RMS)

    1. set the multimeter to AC volts
    2. disconnect all speakers & sub (leave amp connected)
    3. find a tone generator and set it to 100Hz and start playing it on your head unit
    4. turn volume to max on head unit
    5. probe the speaker outputs on your amp
    6. adjust gain until the outputs reach about 24.0V*

If you're running in a bridged mode or anything, make sure to take that into account

    7. Turn the volume down a little so you don't blow your brains out
    8. Reconnect the sub to the terminals you were just probing
    9. Play the same test tone and Report back

*Note that this is a no-load measurement. Loaded will drop voltage, but drivers are rounded up, so 2 ohm might actually be something like 1.8ohm, so the two effects cancel each other and a safety margin is probably about 0.5V under the calculated value: 24.0V

I just downloaded this, might work for ya. Allegedly 100HZ but I'm on a laptop so..can't really hear it.

An app is probably easiest though.

BTW also make sure your source (phone, CD, USB, etc) is at max volume when you do this as well.

Thanks for all this help. Its Nice when someone puts in the effort rather than shitting on someone for not understanding. The report back will be a bit. Thanks again

Max SPL should be about 108dB, so it won't be earth-shattering, but enough to piss off your next-door neighbors lol

@treyus30 , Thanks, I had stepped out for a bit. Great explanation, don’t think I would have been as clear.
