I changed it pointing downward to keep the cabin drone down. At a side angle it gave a bit more cabin drone.

Interestingly enough, the 3rd gen I developed the Y on had a MBRP setup that dumped before the axle. It had horrendous drone. After the Y-pipe the drone was decreased to a point you had to pay attention to find it. Not saying what I’m doing won’t cause some drone, because it’s only theory until it’s finished. But I feel fairly OK about the idea as of now.

Just playing devils advocate here for a min. I think the main reason OEM’s always dump their exhaust out the back or the side is to prevent carbon monoxide from finding its way into the cab. I’m not saying this would or wouldn’t happen in this case, but one worse case scenario I can think of is during summer with rear window open. It’s just a thought, so please don’t :crapstorm::cheers:

btw, I’d definitely prefer a side exit behind r/r tire like stock :)

There are also some state safety inspections that require any exhaust exit to be "outside any body lines" and away from "cabin areas".

Luckily my state is just "away from cabin areas" for it. So I can be under the bed and it is fine.

Not saying it’s impossible. After all, I like to carry the thought anything is possible. But MBRP has had a pre axle dump exhaust for some time now.

Raised it up a bit more and sent it! Best option that fits most!

Here’s a pic of the stock exit on my x-runner. As you can see there is a cut-out of the bodywork for the pipe. My particular tailpipe is a little low and that’s my fault for not paying enough attention when we welded on an ultraquiet resonator. My point though, is it would pretty much look like ass without some sort of pipe there. Any chance of making something that will work for us x-runner guys? :)

I would need an X runner in front of me to make it happen. Unfortunately just the way it is. I don’t know of a single one close to me unfortunately.

    :annoyed:

Hmm… ok, maybe we can figure out a work around. I’d definitely be able to take some measurements from the frame that wouldn’t change regardless of truck. It would definitely be worth it to me to have your full 3” system. :spending:

So I think the best course of action would be to omit the tip and have a local shop bring it out the side. One bend and about a foot of tube is all it would take.

same opinion. Zero drone w the mid pipe and trd exhaust dumping over axle, facing downward.
I also think this truck looks so much better with no exhaust tip showing. I’d never go back to that but I know that’s also a personal opinion and some probably like a factory appearance.

I’m going to bet you probably had drone with the same exhaust and factory Y, correct? It’s definitely something we’ve noticed on every truck we’ve put the Y on.

Anyone running this gone through state inspection? I'm curious if you would fail due to the cat delete.

Going to vary state to state. The ones that do have inspections will just be swapping in stock stuff every x number of years.

Hey guys, dropped a sound video of the 2.5” in my IG story. I need to work on a YouTube for those that don’t have IG. Wish we could just drop videos here.

So the drone off the y pipe is almost always going to be there. For me I put a vibrant ultra quiet where they both connect. Here's a video of the start up.https://youtube.com/shorts/Cq-RWp9Wux4?si=u--stNjjsmfFOUfz

With a poor merge collector design like most have, yes the drone will always be there. With a well designed merge collector, it goes away. This has been true to every vehicle thus far that has one of my Y-pipes. There are other variables that play along as well. But the merge is 100% the largest contributor to drone and rasp.

Ok, now I'm pretty psyched because the 2.5 sounds legit. I'd love to hear it on a drive by, full throttle. Can't wait for the 3"!
