Notable gains in the sense it’s no longer dropping 2 gears and screaming up hills. Identical to what I found on my own truck and no longer needing to downshift the manual for hills I always needed to. There is a rather large, and yes noticeable difference in the mid range power.

That truck is my Y and mid into a TRD exhaust, factory manifolds and NA.

I don’t really know what to say. Other than what the experience actually is. Noticeable.

It makes sense, would probably be even better with the URD headers so it’s truly an equal length design all the way

I think headers and a tune on top of it all would be very impressive.

IMO anything you can pick out for a gain with an NA vehicle is a pretty substantial win.

I feel weird even saying there are gains that can be noticed. But I seriously think the factory Y just sucks that much.

And to be 100% honest too, this Y was kinda forced on her. Stole her truck to build it, she didn’t want it on there because she likes “quiet”. But I put it on last night and told her tough luck. I want to see how it does.

So I fully expect her to be critical of it which I kind of enjoy. Truck is actually so quiet while cruising it’s weird. TRD systems always had a bit of a drone. That’s gone. It’s so quiet going down the road and idling you can’t even hear the engine anymore.

All I know, is she’s gonna tell me to take it off if there is zero benefit to it. See what she has to say on her way home from the office today. Lots of long climbs that always had that thing wound out.

Just my opinion, but if you plan to go with cat-less headers at any point, it is going to be LOUD. You will likely want to add a cat, resonator and bigger muffler.
I have URD EL headers, URD Y-Pipe, with my homemade 3" exhaust that includes a high flow cat, vibrant resonator, 20 or 22" magnaflow followed by another resonator. Sounds good for a V6 but I want to swap in a 24" magnaflow to tone it down some more. Tail pipe exits at a 45 degree and away from under the truck.
The stock manifolds and Y-pipe are big restrictors. OK for NA, but if you are going to pony up for this sweet Y-pipe, may as well do headers as well to take advantage of it.

Y back is the next step. My truck I went 3” from the Y and it’s definitely rowdy. But do intend on developing one that is pretty tame.

The URD y-pipe isn’t equal length. Between that & your 3” exhaust, it probably accounts for a lot of the noise. Might be a lot tamer with URD headers, OP’s y-pipe and stock exhaust after. Could always add a cherry bomb before the stock muffler too.

I’m running URD EL headers, JFR y-pipe, into a TRD catback that has an extra straight through borla muffler and the standard rear exit.

My truck is supercharged and it is louder than I’d like. It drones at certain RPMs and also has a raspiness on deceleration. My point being, if you want a completely quiet catless setup, you’re going to have to add some mufflers and a resonator or two like @findingthingsout mentioned. It will be much louder and get raspier too once you swap to catless headers with a catless y behind it

Agreed. I have AFE Twisted Steel headers on backorder. They are CAT'd but I do wonder how it'll mesh with this pipe. Either way, I'm sure it'll be a huge improvement.

It’s interesting to me the TRD cat back is that loud for you. The truck I just finished is quieter than when we started in my opinion. Unless it’s a static rev.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not obnoxiously loud by any means, and it also depends on where you’re sitting at in the truck. I’ve noticed it’s much quieter from the passenger front seat, but the driver front has some drone for some reason.

I’m convinced the added noise just a product of the blower putting the engine under more load. That combined with the lack of cats and it just takes more to quiet things down to where I want them to be. Most people are probably willing to put up with a little more noise than I am

Drone is drone. And typically a byproduct of design over anything else.

Let’s hold our thoughts on drone and rasp until this gets in the hands of others please. Not sure if I did something different over JFR or what. But drone and rasp isn’t a thing thus far with this Y paired with a TRD catback. In fact it’s quite the opposite. As the TRD catback used to drone with the factory Y.

And if I’m being super honest. My 3” straight through on the prerunner also doesn’t have drone or rasp really. But it’s rowdy as hell under hard acceleration.

Supposedly AFE has changed out those cats for a GESI brand that are better. Myself and several others that are boosted have blown the guts out of the original versions. They did send me a replacement set but did not want to go through with that so I picked up the URD EL option.

Correct, this version is not. They have had EL Y-pipe offerings in the past.
With no cats and a single muffler it is going to be loud, no doubt. I'd like to be wrong but I have changed up the entire exhaust several times to get to this point.

A LOT of noise is produced via turbulent air from an unequal Y. When I built the first one, I started the truck with the exhaust off of the truck completely and only the Y. It was fairly loud. Started with the equal length and it was actually more tamed.

Not trying to say what I have is the holy grail of exhaust components. But let’s give it a shot before jumping to conclusions based on an orange when we’re talking about an apple!

Best wishes. The attention to detail your build has in general shows that you will be able to achieve your goal if it is in any way possible.

Appreciate it! Trying to bring some higher end stuff to the crowd! Far too long of cookie cutter parts for trucks that deserve better!
