I need new seats! I'm looking at some Subaru seats but, I have a single cab and need to be able to lean them forward. Does anybody know is it's possible to modify them to do so?

Yes. It requires a lot of welding and cutting but you can make any seat fit.

The only seat that will bolt on directly is 1st gen tacoma seats unfortunately

I understand that I would need to do that to fit it. I'm worried about getting it to lean forward all the way

Not all seats do that, if the original donor car had that function then you'll be fine.

This one doesn't. That's why I'm wondering if there was a way to modify the Subaru seats so they will flip forward.

Oh no you won't be able to modify it to work like that. You'll have to find seats that have the same function.

Go to a chain junkyard on their 50% days and try out every seat you can find. I sat in almost 100 different German cars and they all felt terrible. I ended up buying seats out of a Lexus ES300 with memory foam, leather, heat, and motorized adjustments. What I did is cut the Lexus feet off, grinded the Tacoma brackets to the rail, and welded angle iron to it to retain the sliding function. It doesn't fold forward but I'd rather have the power functions than being able to get in the back.

    Seats cost me $30

That's not bad. I was at a junkyard today(that's where I seen that subaru) but the selection in slim in North dakota. I would like to be able to lean seats forward so I can grab my shotgun or anything like that.

The power functions were fun to wire up, there's airbags in the lumbar support so I had to make sure not to send 12v to the trigger wires. There is like 20 or so wires going into the driver's seat.

The bare brackets you see are the Tacoma 60/40 seats I stripped

I've never seen a power seat that folds forward you'd have to find a manual one. I am very doubtful any four door has the lean forward functions so your best bet is a two door.

I bought a set of 04 Limited 4Runner seats. They sit so high that my head almost hit the head liner. There now boxed up in the garage collecting dust.

Recaro Trophy seats from a MK2 VW fold forward. They are manual operation and I ordered Wedge seat brackets to fit the Taco.

BMW seats, OME Suspension, CBI and NWTI plates front and rear, 13,000 winch, LED light bars, Ham Radio, topper with roof rack added, stainless exhaust, 2nd battery, inverter, sound deadener
Seat height is an area of concern in these seat swaps. My BMW seats were set up with brackets that match the heights of the factory ones. This makes me ride "tall in the saddle", almost to touching the roof. Also a bit of a scrunch to get in, always bump my head.

If I were to start over, I would look for a set of seats that have flat tracks that could be bolted directly down into the floor. To install, I would remove the double wall panel at the front of the seat (this is the area into which the factory seat bolts go on the front). This should lower the front by a couple of inches. Then just bolt everything to the floor. But for you fellows with xcabs, it doesn't allow easy to the rear, unless you find seats with tilt backs.

I actually plan to revisit my installation when the winter is over.
