Comprehensive insurance also covers stupid--"I didn't know there was anyone there when I merged into the other lane"...

...said by every stupid twit ever who endangered the life of those around him when he/she forgot to check his mirrors AND look to the left and right.

My passenger side (thankfully unoccupied) of my fast fast fast 1995 Mazda MX-6 had an 18 wheeler intrude at 70mph. I think the OP was substantially less dangerously stupid. His insurance (Firemans Fund) wanted to pay a two/third of the book value on the car...I filed comprehensive and State Farm paid more than FMV and then sued them and sent me a check for my deductible.

Your mileage will vary, and so will the OP's (no idea of his insurance status), but "stupid insurance" is built into just plain "insurance", under most comprehensive terms.

This whole thing about stupid insurance is starting to make sense.

If insurance didn't cover stupid people then how many policies could they write? Not many? And stupid people would be screaming and making lots of noise about it.

My issue is that stupid people are lumped in with everyone else. Part of my premium goes to cover stupid people. Which is sort of like just another tax that I pay to take care of stupid people.

Stupid people need lots of care ... and money.

The OP's thread reminds me of that old saying... "Life is hard, it's even harder when you're stupid."

You can't equate the typical medical health industry to auto insurance. Totally different types of insurance. But if you wanted to get technical, If you were to go skydiving one time, just for fun, and when you landed you broke both of your legs, the medical insurance would still pay.

And some insurance companies DO pay for driving in crazy places. I had a 76 GMC Jimmy that I was off-roading in and caught a bad off-camber section in the rocks. Truck rolled onto it's side and did some nice damage. My insurance company paid for the wrecker fee to get my truck loaded onto the wrecker, take it to the body shop, and do all of the repairs. And I was totally up front with them about what happened. When talking about what an insurance company will or will not pay, it all depends on the company. I have seen insurance companies pay $5k in damage to a truck when the guy's wife filled the diesel truck up with unleaded gas and drove off until the engine shut down. Just depends on the company.:D
