If you don’t mind will you update us on the Sony unit and how hard the installation is? I’ve been thinking about upgrading to this unit with just new speakers all around. I can always add a sub in later if I want to.

Hope you also bought the adapter pigtail to match up to your Toyota factory wiring harness behind your oe head unit. This will save you a lot of headache in the future in case you ever an electrical issue under the dash of your truck. If you chop the stock harness, they will always blame it on that.

So I build gaming PC's so how hard could it be right? Well it was a bit more involved then I anticipated but really you just have to follow the instructions. it is a MUST to get the recommended Maestro adapter and harness kit for your stock equipment and headunit. The Sony AX6000 for me was the easier part, you flash the maestro on the PC with the software then just plug everything in (there are ALOT of connections to make) but it all turned on and worked! The only issue so far is my anytime front/rear camera kit I installed, the switch isn't working but the reverse camera works flawlessly whether activated via the Sony or by going in reverse.

In hindsight I should've actually called Crutchfield for more one on one support. Over 3 days I was able to successfully install my headunit and the maestro. I've decided to throw in the towel and use a Stereo shop to install my Kicker speakers. Splicing and adding the adapters to use existing stock speaker wiring was a breeze and I'm comfortable running the amp power from the battery but man having to splice the factory wiring from the harness out of the old JBL amp in the rear is a HUGE undertaking I'm not ready for even with a diagram. I also have a 10" kicker hideaway I need to install. Initially my plan was to simply install the amp and sub in the old JBL spot behind the rear seats and put them on a piece of wood or something.

Having not done car audio before, I've learned alot but I'd say installing the headunit was by far the easiest part but took the longest connecting the correct adapters in the harness with the maestro.

Yes! I forgot to mention needing Maestro! Key part for getting the steering wheel controls to work.
Were you at in east bay? I’m in Palo Alto

In Livermore, taking my truck to Pearson's auto this week to get it all buttoned up. They've been around for decades and are personal Toyota truck owners!

Sorry for the delay. I used the LC7 to convert the speaker output to RCA. The Alpine is bridged, and way more than is really needed. The gains on both my Alpines are about 50%. The floor and roof will vibrate if I push it. Turned down the bass balances out the fronts and gives a full sound.

Mine is the same from my 2nd gen. I attempted to put it in my 3rd gen but the box just barely hits the sliding window motor. I plan on notching it to make it fit though

That’s good to know about the JBL setup. Saw one for sale and was tempted. Glad I didn’t. I had my speakers all out for sound deadening this weekend. They are hilarious. I think some of my fridge magnets have bigger magnets than the stock speakers. Any tips on which to replace if you could only choose one? I was debating on the door speakers and maybe the front tweeters.

Not to mention adding sound deadner to the doors makes them sound like an expensive car when you close them.

I think most of us are amused at how small the magnets are on the factory speakers when we first yank them out. After I stopped laughing I have to admit I was impressed that for what they are they sounded decent. I'm not positive, but I believe they're neodymium magnets which allows them to do the job with less mass.

Going back with what I know now, if you're only going to replace speakers without going down the rabbit hole, I'd swap out the tweeters and maybe find some efficient 6x9's for the front and that's it.

I knew I was going with one of the smaller efficient amps so I didn't want to "waste" good speakers on it so I went with Infinity References purely because they were half-off during Black Friday. I had Morels in my shopping cart but like I said, I felt like the value wouldn't have been there being powered by a class D amp. It's safe to assume any aftermarket offering being powered by any amp will sound better than the factory setup. Like with anything else in the upgrading game it's up to the individual to determine what they're willing to spend and what they're satisfied with.
