Thinking about putting 3 8" pioneer shallow mounts behind the seat of my 2016. Can I buy a box from somewhere? Should I make one? Should I take out the storage behind the seats? Let me hear some opinions.

    1) If you buy a box from somewhere, make sure that the specs match (not all subwoofers have the exact same dimensions for mounting; a generic box may fit one speaker perfectly while another may require box mods). My advice, custom build the box (or have someone custom build it for you). Not only the dimensions themselves, but the specs (volume/cubic feet) need to be in line with the requirements of the subs.
    2) Yes, remove the storage bins. You'll likely need to in order to have a secure, one-piece mount.

Why 8"? If you're going to spend the money, the lowest I'd go would be 10". I have a feeling you'll be disappointed with the 8" setup. Just a thought...

Could certainly be true, BUT I can tell you that my bff had three 8" JL W6 subs (sealed box) in his truck back in '97 and it slammed. It all depends on what type of sound he's looking for. I've generally had 3 12" JL subs in my vehicles (currently have 2 13" JL TW5 in my Tundra). OP, are you looking for quality sound, deep bass, loud, etc.?

I completely agree. To me, 10" gives you the best of both mediums. What amp are you going to be using to push them OP?

I've been thinking of doing something similar. I'd like to see pics if any of you guys have done this in the 16 Double Cab. I used to do high-end car audio installation years ago (80's and 90's), so the build doesn't worry me, but I'd like to see what can be done back there before I go tearing it all apart. Pics of the empty area with the bins removed, and even measurements would be super helpful.

The rear area (sans storage bins) are pretty much the same as previous years. You can probably find plenty of installs and measurements around the interweb. Should be able to get a general sense of what you would be working with back there...

Since this is my first Toyota truck, I don't know much about what is and isn't the same. I'll take a look around and see what I can find. Thanks!

In my second gen I have two 8" JL microsubs and they sound very very good. People are totally shocked when I tell them it's just two 8" subs. The subs come with a ported box and after removing the plastic behind the seats of a second gen, they fit. For my truck, the two single boxes fit better, but JL makes a box that can fit two. Not sure how it would fit your truck, just thought I'd throw it out there. I can get pics of mine if you want.

That's a nice option - thanks for posting that link. I think two boxes might be better because you could move the port outlets over to the corners - which should help make them louder. That would leave room for electronics in the middle.

I like it loud and a little bass-heavy, but I'm not into rap bass. I listen to rock most of the time.

That's how mine is set up. I listen to everything from metal to rap. It all sounds really good. I have them powered by a jl 500x1 amp and it came with a bass knob so I can tweak the bass volume very easily. I couldn't be happier with my setup.
