With my setup I can't even think of playing music with my seats down otherwise they hit a metal bar at the bottom of the seats

Never thought the subs would hit the bar. Good point

yes 1/2 birch will be enough. For added strength add a wooden dowl to brace the baffle to the rear panel.

So I'm confused. How are people wiring the amp to the stock head unit? There's confusing instructions about some shit and others are saying just get a hi/low converter?

Is there any plug and play into the head unit?

I know the place I used to setup my system had to use a LOC
to connect the amp to the HU.

It's called a line out converter and you wire the rear speaker outputs to it which provides you rca outs that you would hook to your amplifier. Lci2 is what I used and seems to be working great!

The best way to do it is to use a line out controller like the AudioControl LCi7 or something similar. You use a pair of Metra cables to place between the HU and the factory wire harness to provide the speaker wire outs to run directly to the LOC. You need the male and female Metra cables to do it and I ran a 9 wire line under the floor to the back.

I had a Kicker Hideaway in my previous 2006 tacoma dcsb, under the passenger's seat and a Blaupunkt rated at only 75w RMS in my 2010 highlander, also under the passenger's seat. The Blaupunkt put out alot of bass compare to the Kicker rated at 150w RMS. Perfectly filled in the needed low end.

So, I am thinking will get the newer version of Blaupunkt rated 150w RMS for my 2016 tacoma when it arrives in a few weeks.

Have you looked at the Alpines ?
Blaupunkt XLf 200A is 300W and pricey. ($400)
I have heard good things about Blaupunkt. Which Blaupunkt model did you have before ?

I had the precious model. Too lazy to go look. But it has been in my highlander since 2010 without any issue.

The 200A you mentioned is rated at 300W peak, 150W RMS. Saw a few on ebay, seller from Germany, listed for around $190 + $30 shipping.

I'll check out the alpine too. Thanks.

For those installing yourself. Where are you running the power write for the amp?

I have seen people run them through the rubber grommet in the firewall on either the driver side or the passenger side - there is a grommet on each side. I have also seen where people have drilled their own hole in the firewall on the driver side, installed their own grommet then ran their power wire through that

I went through the firewall using the main harness grommet on the drivers side.

I plan to go through one of the grommets, haven't decided what side yet. Right now I'm working on figuring out how to make the sub box, then I'll work on the rest.

@Mr Marv is a vendor on TW. Amazing boxes, he is a true craftsman and one of the nicest people you will ever talk to. Highly recommend his boxes.

Did you cut out all the back plastic? I have two shallow pioneer tens I plan on using in my future 2016 ORDC. I have two 5 channel amps in the garage. Not sure I'll need them yet. But I am committed to putting the 2 10" in the truck somehow.
