Well to start off, I don't know very much about speakers. I have a 2012 tacoma with the jbl sound system with a 8" sub. Now for the problem. I was showing my friend the bass and I put the volume up to 30 for a brief maybe 2 minutes. I've only done this twice and I was getting a nice crisp "punch" with the sound. A week later I'm not getting the "punch" from the bass anymore, everything else sounds normal though. I wouldn't have noticed it because I don't listen to it loud very much, but today I put the vol. up to a easy 12 and put the bass to max from options and the punch isn't there anymore. (I could easily feel it at 12 last week)

    What happened?

I would also like to add that I was playing music from my ipod through usb if that makes a difference.

Get in the back seat and feel if it's working at all.

Sounds like your sub might have broke in. Or might just not be working. Rattled a connection loose?

What frequency is it set at? Mine is set at 63 hertz for a nice powerful deep bass. Higher levels means more mid range and less "punch"

Another phenomenon is you get used to it and then wonder where the thump that impressed you earlier went.

It could be that because you had the bass set to max and the volume up that the processor in the head unit turned the bass down so that it wouldn't ruin the stock sub. A lot of factory systems do this so that you won't blow up your cheap factory speakers from driving them hard.

If the processor turned it down when its set at max with high vol. then will it put it back to normal once the vol comes back down?
