I am looking to install subs in my 2022 Tacoma. I want something that thumps and I plan to wire it myself. Looking to add 2 10-12" subwoofers either under the front seats or behind the back seats in the storage compartment. Looking to spend around $300-400. Any suggestions or current setups?

I had a Rockford Fosgate Punch 8 installed, it sounds great. It has a 300 watt amp included in the box, nice clean sound with some pretty nice thump. What's nice is it fits perfect behind the rear pass side seat, looks oem and has punches well above its weight, I also added some Rockford 2 way speakers/tweeters in the dash and it all under 450$ installed.

Behind the rear seats will be your best option. I've got a JL Stealthbox, kicker key 500.1, focal rse-165/rcx-165, key 200.4 and factory 2017 head unit. I don't think it will give you the thump you're looking for, but the sound quality is definitely there with the DSP. Do a forum search for Mr. Marv. he's also on instagram and makes custom enclosures. Otherwise, maybe one of the JL powered enclosures with dual 8" subs. You'll probably have to remove the bins for the setup you want.

    1. No sub worth a shit will fit under the front seats.
    2. You'll need to bump that budget up some for 2 subs.

Exactly. Two good subs alone will be 400 or more. Plus an amp, wiring kit, building/buy a box etc.

You might find some basic universal preloaded 8-10" sub/amp for that price.

"Thump" and the space behind/under a seat, especially with a 10 or 12" sub just isn't going to work. Air. Volume. Your subs need it. Or you will sacrifice output sound.
People forget about 8s when it comes to subs. Even then 3 cubes helps a ton.

Could you not think of a nicer way to say that? Funny somebody who runs reps wants to talk shit about my budget.

    Runs reps?

I told you the truth, plain and simple.

If you want something that "thumps" you don't want anything under the seat. They're all shit.

And if you want two subs, an amp and accessories for $400 you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I have the 12” Jl stealth that fit behind my passenger seat with removing the storage box it hits good for a thin box way better than the rf 10” I had but it’s not as deep bass as my larger box that’s in my suv

I installed a Cerwin Vega HED 10" shallow mount subwoofer behind the rear seat in the right cubbies, powered by a Hertz DPower Mono amp.

Air space for the subs are at a premium.

2 things I can tell you, the deck output sucks, it rolls off bass as volume goes up. And take the sub output off the front speakers outputs to get even a decent thump.

Good luck trying to put together something you want in your budget... mine cost about $500 pre-Covid and I did all the work myself.

Unfortunately it's a truck. Your sheetmetal tool shed has better acoustics than your truck, and your overstuffed linen closet has more room.

Buy some questionably sourced enclosures on craigslist, don't ask why the wires look like they were ripped, and remove your rear seats for the install. That's the only way you're going to get righteous thump for less than a thousand bucks.

If you want to keep your rear seats, you might want to meter your expectations a bit. A single 10 in a shallow enclosure can round out the sound nicely. It won't annoy your neighbors (thank the fucking gods), but it'll produce a rich deep tone. Expect to pay a bit more than 400 after sub, amp, enclosure, line converters and wiring though.

Ive got 2 kicker comp RT in a ported box 800 watts RMS. It slams pretty good. Ive had it for 5 years and i cant complain at all. Im running a kenwoood KAC 9106d. Its been great and leaves some headroom for the future or just nice to not have the amp running hot on max volume.
