I would do something like this, and i believe it's a 12, so a 10 would save even more space.

Not an audiophile, hell I'm deaf in one ear and have 70% hearing in my 'good' ear, so this will be perfect for me.

I like this idea. I'm contemplating doing something like this in the stock rear speaker location in my EXT CAB. I've tried finding some examples for a 1st gen but no luck yet.

Yeah it's perfect for hitting the lows for any genre. I also have an after market radio so I can tune it even further

Thats my plan. An 8" sub will fit PERFECTLY in the speaker cover. Youve got about 4.5" mounting depth to play with and more than enough volume for an 8" woofer. Theres space for some 3.5 or 4" speakers to be surface mounted on the bottom of the panel

I read of some people using expanding spray foam to create an enclosure in this area. Do you know of anyone that's done this? Or what the results might be compared to a glassed box?

It would never work as good. And be a pain to actually make an air tight space with just foam.

Yeah me too, just installed it a few months ago, my first deck with Bluetooth lmao. I was being a bit sarcastic with my genre of preference I mentioned above(kinda, I do have Project Pat and 36 Mafia on my Spotify list, lol), but sounds like this is a good addition to any music.

If you want to save even more space and not sacrifice performance, go with the JL Audio 8W3V3-4. They pack a huge punch for an 8" sub that is only 5" deep.

I was thinking it wouldn't hold air as well as a sealed glass enclosure but have never actually tried it. It probably won't be til the summer when i did this for both time and weather purposes. Plenty of time to research. thanks for the input

Companys are coming out with some pretty ridiculous 6.5" subs lately. Wonder what one in factory mount would do sealed up with foam.

I used one of these https://www.supercrewsound.com/95tacoecconsole.html in my extended cab. It added a nice bass kick, but not teeth rattling bass by any means. Plus side is it kept the rear seats useable. I screwed a couple cup holder to the top of it for the kids too.

I've thought about that option as well. I've been looking at several different ideas. I had an 8" JBL GTO sub that I really liked. I made a custom box that fit in place of the fold down seat behind the driver's seat. It only stuck out about 2" more than the folded up seat did. Unfortunately it was stolen when my truck was broken into a couple weeks ago. I've thought aboutre placement options such as:
    a. doing the same thing again with a Pioneer shallow 10 and bolting it to the back wall
    b. running 6.75" kicker subs in the stock location free air
    c. using some other 6.5" subs in the stock locations with either glass or spray foam and sound deadening
    d. running 8" subs glassed in the stock location.

Not really sure which way to go but am open to any of them and others as well. Like most i need to space in the back and just more low end for SQ purposes. Not so much for seating but for ski and MTB stuff.

I listen anywhere from alternative, country, EDM, rap, pop and it all sounds great. Especially since it comes with a little knob to control the amount of bass. So can crank it up for EDM and lower for country

Is that a Tacoma? I've never seen that style door before.

Ah that makes more sense. Wish Tacomas had that style door on xtracabs.
