Ok, I see what is going on.

There are two different models of JL speakers. The powerwedge+ box ones are the TW1 which are an inch more on the front mount. The Stealthbox ones are TW3 subs that are $80/100W more and are an inch less on the front mount.

The Stealthbox is a little larger than the Taco Tunes box. I wonder how a TW3 would sound in a Taco Tunes box.

Something is telling me to either spend the money or build my own.

This. I got the Stealthbox on sale for $750. from Crutchfield. Had a local shop install it with a 550w Renegade amp. Was never satisfied with the sound and then the amp blew. Went to another shop and the guy gave me a half hour sermon on amps, boxes, air volume, world politics and more. He installed a 250w amp by a company called BLAM. Well, my amp and sub on it's lowest setting is louder than the old set-up on it's highest. So don't assume bigger is better. And spring for quality.

I was on the fence with the stealth box also and I put a audio control ACM series 300 watt amp on it and it literally makes my rear view mirror shake when turned up. I am pretty sure it’s putting out more than 300 watts but I will say it rocks. I have a Pioneer head unit ,a ACM 200 on the other speakers, and the stealth and other amp for bass . I am very happy how it came out

I know it's approaching a 3 year old thread response but still raises an excellent point. Most of us here bought the trucks because we knew they were going to last 15 years minimum up to 350,000 miles so might as well keep the threads going. Deacon Blues is absolutely correct about magnet diameter width playing a huge role in getting subs to fit with enclosures behind the rear seats. I'm pretty handy with fab skills both with wood and fiberglass ( been doing this for over 20 years) and noticed that the shallow mount subs I bought ( HERTZ MPS300) for my enclosure while around 3.5 inches deep still had more magnet/motor width that in a sense didn't offer much benefit in the way of mounting depth than maybe conventional subs up to a point. In other words I probably could have installed two conventional 12 inch SQ focused subs ( magnet depth 5.75) or three 10 inch in my DIY enclosure than these shallow mounts which can get costly. Sure the shallow mounts might be better given a different install situation where a box has to be more slim across all dimensions under a seat or somewhere else but with these angles required for the tacoma maybe not so much.

See my pictures attached for what I'm talking about..Going to likely route out an 7.5 inch diameter hole in the back of my existing box per side where the subs mount and fiberglass the opening closed with about 4-5 layers of glass for extra clearance vs the 0.70 inch plywood. I can then build wooden rings to space out the subs to get any extra depth I need. I might have purchased these shallow mounts for no reason at all and can get two 12's I have on hand modest depth subs ( 5.75 or more depth x 6 inch magnet width) to fit in their place. These shallow mount subs are better than they used to be in the past but i still think they are somehow limiting the snap and quick response I'm used to from regular subs....

I sacrificed by driver side rear seat for a 12" sub with a ported box. Have it faced towards the back, the bass is pretty overpowering when i have it turned all the way up. My only advice is to get a ported box at all costs, my buddy has a shallow mount 10" in his 3G and it sounds like junk lol

It all depends on the box
I own a stealth box , and I wouldn’t deem it to have earth shattering bass , but for its size and where it sits in my truck and only 300 plus watts for power . It sounds pretty good, for what it is
