This is an anology describing what a converter does...
Imagine taking the sounds of your voice in normal conversation and turning it into a whisper so that the amp can turn it into your screaming voice. Now during a normal conversation voice, turning that into a whisper and then into a scream per se sounds ok.
Now imagine you have a cold. It sounds gravely and you can hear the congestion you have. For the sake of this analogy, that congestion and gravely voice are distortion that is going to be converted into a whisper before the amp turns it into a scream.
These factory radios are nothing to write home about to begin with. While what you'd like to do can be done, and it'll work, ultimately you'll be amplifying distortion.

No wire from battery to amp with a fuse.A remote wire from a source that turns on and off when you turn the "key" truck on or off to the amp.A very good ground wire to your amp.RCA plugs will go to your head unit with an after market adapter.Or straight to after market radio if it had rhe RCA plugs. Then a wires from your subwoofer to your amp then enjoy the bass.

Ok so just so we are clear where does the RCA converter go to? Is that where the remote wire goes to?

Yes, think I would just want to leave the stock one completely alone and just wire a completely brand new one. I would just put it behind the drivers seat.

I would like to just leave the stock sub alone and just wire a completely new one. SO then would I just buy the aftermarket RCA that plugs into the stock radio? Then run the remote wire to that?

You'll have to take ur head unit out it's pretty easy. The wires on the converter will splice, solder, wire nut however you decide.Into your speaker wires going into your head unit.So when your done you should have four wires spliced or however you decide to your factory wires and the other end will have the RCA jacks that will go to ur amp.BUT if all you want to do is change your subwoofer for a new subwoofer same size .YOU DON'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE

You got thrown off course about amps and wires.Your original question was only about changing a subwoofer. All it did was confuse you when everything else was thrown in.I hope I didn't make it worse good luck.

The subwoofer that came with the truck only has a power cable. The amp is built in, it is a piece of garbage.

I either wanted to wire a whole new sub or switch out the current one. I then decided I wanted a 12 inch instead of another 8. I mostly get how to wire it I am just confused on how to wire the remote wire with the stock radio and that RCA converter. thanks

When you wire up the RCA converter. You could find a wire there or go to the fuse box like someone mentioned.

That is not what I have. I have this[IMG] Ok so I have been doing some research and realized that the LOC has to tap into a speaker source.@diamondw mentioned that I could tap into the wiring for my stock sub. I would just take the LOC and tap into that wiring and it would work then?

Looking at both pics, i can see it hiding behind the trim... Is that sub enclosure made of plastic?

I have already pulled that stupid cover off months ago and it still rattles but not as much and only at certain times. I just want something that produces actual bass.

Oh man, I'd rip that out in a heartbeat. Honestly, rip it out. It's just gonna take up space that you could use to mount a sub and an amp. And you'll be eliminating a rattle.
