Some people read fortune cookies like humorous quips.

My buddy told me something he heard, and now I'm the leading internet expert on whatever that was.

I used the factory remote to activate my remote start. I know it's suggested to use the LOCK function to activate the RS, but doing so leaves the fob inactive on the factory keyless entry system, preventing you from using it to UNLOCK your doors. I used the UNLOCK function so I press unlock 3x and it starts and I can still get into my truck keyless.

I just didn't want to abandon the built in keyless entry with a stand alone system. You can use the flip key or all in one key if you just get an add-on remote start that ties into the factory keyless entry.

You're going to make it just fine around here.

    Ignore our side arguments.

That's not bad. I don't need an all in one with key, just don't want two fobs.

    Is that the 5706?

LOL.. I've been down the warranty voiding with another vehicle. ;)

Federal law? Yep. Toyota attempting to skirt federal law? No doubt. People gullible enough to let a dealer say "sorry your warranty is void because you didn't use Toyota approved muffler bearings!" Not this guy. :)

I've had a few different Compustar 2-way starters with nothing but good experiences. I like small remotes so I picked the Slice Jr for my 2014. FWIW My installer won't install Astro Start units. He says they're junk.

Yes it is. There are newer ones out now that you can also check out.

Mine has tilt/tow sensors, audio window break sensor, hood pin, backup battery, all doors and windows covered including sliding window, shock sensor, remote start.

As I said in the beginning, Viper or Clifford.

Have a competent installer do the work, also.

Sweet.. I'll have to check it out. You install it or let someone?

I don't really need all the tilt/tow/etc. I've got stellar insurance. LOL

That was installed by alarm shop.
If all you are looking for us remote start I believe viper makes a kit just for that with know security but I figured I'm spending the money might as well drop the little extra for the all in one package

Tilt/tow is awesome btw I had a Guy try tow my truck as soon as he went an inch off the ground alarm was blaring I came running out of my buddies house and he was like there's no parking pass. I pointed to the dash and he was like oh I did t see it lol

OP. For what it's worth I just made my way through 4 pages of BS and would finally like to suggest the Prestige APS-997E. A friend helped me install it recently and it cost less than $200. The security LEDs are ridiculously bright thought. I'm thinking for painting them over with black paint.
