Hi, I have a 2016 Tacoma Limited. I am looking for recommendations for a after market skid plate with the access panel for the oil filter. I detest having to remove the original skid plate to change my oil. The TRD skid plate is an option but I’m wondering if there is a better choice. I don’t go off road much but do live in the country on gravel roads. Thanks for any recommendations.

Do you really need a skid plate?

If you must have one, RCI seems to be a good option.

I think I would prefer a skid plate due to the gravel roads and tall grass that I drive thru. Granted I could probably do without but it was put there for a purpose. I just wish that Toyota had thought thru the skid plate issue and the fact that it has to be removed to change the oil. I appreciate the suggestion about RCI though.

You could :sawzall: your OEM plate and make an access port if you don’t want a heavy plate one. Otherwise, if you want a heavier gauge plate, I went with Mobtown and really like it.

I have thought of just cutting my own access hole and welding nuts on it. I’m a machinist so that is definitely an option. I have material readily available for a cover

It’s a good way to go, especially if you’re just hitting light stuff.
