My VIAR compressor came with a gauge that released air when removed from the tire, I am having a hard time finding one that is similar that isn't junk.

Anyone have to replace theirs and have a suggestion? Thanks

    I have a VIAR 300P.

    In for answers.
It’s funny, my VIAR, stick gauge, and the TPMS all give me different numbers.

My 400P has a little twist lock that allows you to to bleed air. Is that what you're talking about?

Other than that, every gauge I've ever used in my life releases a bit of air when you put it on and when you remove it, including my 400P. That's totally normal, and nothing to worry about.

I never spend a lot of money on tire pressure gauges (~$5-7). All have read within a fraction of pounds within each other.

No sorry I should have explained it better. The small compressor does not shut off when the tank is full or release air from the compressor itself. Instead the original filler/gauge had a pressure release for when you are NOT adding air to tires. My original one separated at the coupler and I bought a new hose and gauge, but mistakenly forgot about this and it blew the new line.

I am just looking for a good inflator that releases the pressure when not in use.

    Tank?

There's no tank on these compressors. You have to turn the thing off when you get to the correct pressure.

Are you talking about this piece (circled)?

If so, that's a pressure release to help you deflate your tires. It does not protect your line from over pressure. Read your user manual.

So this compressor doesn't have an automatic shut off pressure switch, meaning it will keep running until its shut off. You could add a pressure switch to it that would shut it off, but that would require modifying the wiring of the compressor. You could also put a pressure relief valve on the outlet of the compressor which would bleed pressure to atmosphere when it got too high. Your best but may be to buy the VIAIR hose that came with the compressor. I believe it's this, though it seems pretty expensive. You could also upgrade to another model that does come with an automatic shutoff.

EDIT: Realized what you may be after is just an open flow air chuck. These will continuously flow air even when not attached to a tire, preventing any overpressure in the hose.
