Well, you see the tires have such a good grip...I wanted to correctly illustrate this by ...ok shit so I took the picture with my damn iphone.... Apple just doesn't play nice with everyone else.

Beach sand is my primary use of 4WD, and I have posted much on beach driving and tire selection here on TW.

The Dynapro ATms passed 'my' beach tests with flying colors... The best part is that they are quiet on the highway and also worked excellent in snow and mud... and are CHEAP!

I find street pressure of 38 psi to be ideal and dropping them to 18 psi worked perfect for sand... Other tires like BFG Rugged Trails, Toyo Open Country AT, Cooper Discoverer ATR also did fine in sand, but at 15 psi.

Tires that do not do well in sand unless more air is removed are mud-snow tread tires and 3 ply sidewall tires (BFG All Terrain TA)... usually needing to be dropped to 10 psi to achieve floatation.

Here are some photos of my Hankooks in the sand this summer:

The General Grabbers were my first choice, but 2 serious issues prevented my from getting them.

    1) They are still not available in the size that fits our stock/ unlifted trucks (265/75-16), even though their info sheet lists it.

    2) They are $220 each!

oh for real...thats lame..listing and no availability..better fix that! and yea not many people can justify 220$ a tire...thats insane! especially when you can spend half that for a tire that drives you down the road the same way!

Just to second DavidK's comments -
I have 265/70/17 Toyo A/T, they are very good in sand - most of the time I'm too lazy to air down and pump up again. I just cheat and go to 4WHI.

From looking at other trucks/tires, it seems that a somewhat less aggressive tire is better in sand, and more aggressive may be better for rocks and ledges. So, Toyo A/T, BFG Rugged Terrain, David's Honkooks, etc. may be better in sand because the less aggressive, somewhat softer shoulders don't dig themselves a hole, like the BFG A/Ts might.

My Toyos are about ready for replacement, and I'm planning on going to the new BFG Rugged Terrains.
