Hi everyone. I'd love your suggestions in this scenario. I have Icon AAL and because of the sag, I asked a shop to install the Overload Springs back in, however, they installed them face-up, rather than the OEM face-down.

    OEM Picture:

Link to my truck build page: 2002 Double Cab w/Icon AAL (link to my truck specs).
Icon recommended I remove the helper/overload spring, completely.
OEM Configuration is Leaf pack "facing up" and the helper curved down down "facing down".

Again, Icon recommended the helper should always be removed with their AAL, every time.
If the truck sags, they recommend Lift Blocks for the height needed; in my case, it's 1" blocks I would need to correct the sag.

    What They Installed:

Current State: I need to talk to the shop that they installed the helper springs upside down.
Here is where i'd like suggestions:
    A) Ask for my money back from the shop, have them correct the Overload Springs.
    B) Ask for my money back from the shop, remove the Overload Springs and install 1" Lift Blocks MYSELF.
    C) Ask that the shop correct the Overload Springs, free of charge, and swap 1" blocks eventually (maybe even add a U-bolt flip kit)
    D) what options you got?

    Thank you TW in advance

Just have them flip the springs around. Should take them, what, 20 minutes?

Thank you! I’m heading back at 4:30 to see if they’ll either recognize they messed up and fix it. If they make excuses, I’ll deal with that and might take you up on your offer. When I installed the AAL myself, that wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be haha.

Let us know how it turns out!

I'm always willing to help someone wrench on their own vehicle; I've wrenched on mine but it gets boring too quickly.

    Have them correct the issue.

I doubt you'll get your money back unless they don't correct the issue. I used to run a bike shop and people would often try and wiggle their way into getting free work done (that they previously agreed to pay full price for) if we screwed something up. Sorry, but no. Fix the issue OR get a refund. not both.

Also, a u-bolt flip kit requires welding custom shock mounts to the axle housing. That's more work than I'd trust these guys with, lol...

IMO don't add blocks. If your springs sag too much, it's because they are too soft. Adding a block lift doesn't increase spring rate, it just moves the axle farther from the springs, and you end up with other problems like increased axle-wrap. I'm honestly surprised Icon would suggest adding a block.

That’s exactly my goal. We all make mistakes but accountability for such things isn’t common, in most cases.

    updates to follow.

    Talked with the shop.
They were reasonable and they'll make it right tomorrow morning.
They said "most trucks in here have bands that face up".
Completely agreed however the OEM bands and configuration on the 1st gen was Overload facing down.
He said, "We'll make it right and flip 'em".

    Good stuff!

Hopefully the mechanic that did the work understands what an AAL and/or overload leaf is from this whole thing.

HAHA! It took some explaining that the 1st Gen Overload (Helper) spring + Leafs aren't the same as other generations, other brand trucks, etc. i.e., 1st gen tacoma Overloads are on the bottom, on some those are installed on the top of the leafs, that some overloads are integrated into the shackles of the Leaf pack, etc.

Also thanks for all the suggestions everyone and @Kwikvette for being willing to lend a hand!
I'm willing to do a lot under that truck but Leafs on jack stands, no fun.

I'll follow up with how the ride feels with the ICON AALs and Overload back in.
