Good seems like everyone is set on the Black Rock which would be plenty of fun but regardless I'll be taking a trip to Jarbidge this summer.

If we do go to the Black Rock, I think we should go through high rock and then cut to Onion resevoir area then cut back down the other side of the playa.

Let me know if I can help you guys out somehow.

if by highway smooth you mean dips, bumps, and ruts, you are 100% correct :)

it can get very hectic very quick if you don't have a clear view in front, or you are kicking up dust and the person behind you can't see anything.

one of these days I will convert my playa video from minidv to avi for youtube.

I was talking to Jon about this trip at BAMF move day and IIRC he was leaning to on of the July dates. Sorry can't say for sure which date it was though.

Thank you! Black Rock is very photogenic. Hopefully we can get a good group out there. Bay Area Expeditions (BAE) goes out there all the time and it would be nice if we could go out there with a bunch of TW members.
...I have endless photos from out there

Nothing out there will be too intense and I'd expect others will have more extreme spare parts.

Coolant might be a bit unnecessary as out there you ought to have lots of water and water will work. A gallon of coolant probably be okay though.

Probably don't need an extra air filter, especially if you have OBA with a tank and can blow off a dirty filter.

Spare is a must. Ought to get a plug kit too btw.

I think a spare cv, u-joint and serpentine belt (and routing diagram)would be good but chances are there will be others with a spare cv and I doubt anyone blows one out there so might be a little unnecessary to go buy one for this trip alone.

If I'm there I'll have a spare inner/outer tie rod, u-joint, lower idler, valve stem cores, . I'll also have plugs and patches, tire iron, impact gun, plenty of tools(35mm hub nut socket), waffle boards, bow saw, and every other thing we need. Planning on picking up a reman CV axle soon.

A good thing to do is spend 15 minutes under your truck the day before you depart and check everything over. Spend a little time, grease the u-joints, check for play. Check condition of ball joints and tie rods. Check your cv boots for tears etc... Look for loose bolts, drive shaft etc... check fluid levels. Check your air filter and maybe blow it out.

Solid tires are also a must out there or chances are good you'll end up with flats. Jungo road for example has a reputation of killing tires.

I have a bunch but an assortment of mini fuses is a good thing to carry.

I think most of this stuff is more important when you're out alone, that's why I have too much shit. In a group, lot's of redundancy, so I'm not gonna say you need to go out and spend a fortune on spare parts.

But... I think mostly the concern will be hydration and heat. Probably want a way to make shade, such as BAE's sig pic.

Heres another post I made, edited to include crap that I've since added.

thanks for the info, I will double check what I have and see what I may need. I do have plug kit, as for air filter I was just worried about it getting clogged but last time I didn't have OBA to clean it as I do now, so thanks for pointing that out. As for coolant I just have 1 jug of OEM coolant.

With your list to work off of ( thankfully I have more than 70% of the items you listed as my days on Calguns and SHTF prep work got me to where I am now ) I can figure what's missing and what I need. Looking forward to this, be my first expo type trip.

I'm not the leader of this but if I were I'd probably say if you want to attend you need at least an all-terrainish tire (non highway tire), a spare, and tools to change, f/r recovery points, plenty of food water and fuel for yourself, and appropriate camping gear and clothing. Also an understanding that while nothing out there is too extreme, this is an off road trip and vehicle damage could happen and owner assumes responsibility/liability.

I'm sure everyone is good with that though.

Here are a couple links I like.

I won't pretend my list is all inclusive but ingenuity can go a long ways. There are some of guys who carry an incredible amount of spare parts, tools, and little things, like every nut and bolt on their truck, spare cotter pins of every size, spare roll pins, electrical connectors, wire, washers, screws, seals, clamps, bushings, brake lines, fittings, hose clamps, parts cleaning kits and fluid recycling jugs, etc... on and on (though some of that is that if you're rig is disabled in some technical terrain it could be hell getting out without a fully working rig, like fordyce or something)

    Anyway... I think we'll be fine. :p

Well... at least as long as no one jumps their truck through a wash and bends both spindles. :cookiemonster:
