i have been in a few cabins. one i have been in in gatlinburg seam smaller. but maybe thats just the ones i have been in.(mostly visiting people. the once i have been in in pigeon forge seam bigger.
smokey mountain knife works is cool. i don’t think the make knifes any more though.

i hear the zip line is fun as hell. but $$$...

cades cove and hiking is also a good thing to do. Maybe but the kids and females on one vehicle and the guys in another an drive thru then the guys go hiking.(or how ever wants to hike. and let me know if you all go hiking and want me to come up. i have not really hiked up their. but would like to.

You can buy knifes, Best way to describe it is it’s kinda like a knife super store. I know you can get laser engraving done on knifes. It’s a pretty nice size place and for the guys plan on spending a good 2 hours maybe more looking at everything. They have all kinds of knifes. stuff you would carry in your pocket everyday, stuff you’d take camping hiking. They have some swords. They have knifes that you would just put in a case and not really ever use.(or at lest i would not.) I have yet to see a toyota knife. lol

Got married in Gatlinburg - in the little white church on the strip and had the reception dinner across the street. We stayed in a cabin outside of Gatlinburg probably about 10 miles from traffic light #3, as my wife reminded me- it was really nice. Got married in October of '08...perfect time of year, not too cold but a little nip in the air and the leaves were changing. Our cabin was on a lake and really nice - with a hottub and all...some of our family members doubled up in one of the larger cabins and were not crowded at all.

If you like pancakes/good breakfast, I suggest the Log Cabin Pancake House in Pigeon Forge - definitely worth the stop. STAY AWAY from Flapjacks, though, a terrible place...you have been warned!

The Smokey Mountain Knifeworks place mentioned earlier is a must...spend WAY too much in there... There is a lot to do, the kids would like Dollywood of course... If you are a fan of airplanes, then the TN Museum of Aviation in Sevierville is a nice place - some of their planes are airworthy. The day we were there they were moving and prepping the P-47 for flight. It was a nice little musem...

Cades Cove is the best - we saw a lot of animals, including a couple of bears...and a monster buck! We did a lot of hiking to some of the falls which was worth the trip in itself. However, due to the time we were there, the Cove was crowded as hell...

Hopefully one day we can make it again - we have 2 kids now so it will be a little different...

We live 80 miles east of main park area up in the Cherokee national forest...you might want to cast you net a bit wider and look on the south side of the park, small towns like Bryson City, Murphy, Franklin on the west, Maggie Valley directly south, or Hot Springs, Asheville or Black Mountain on the eastern side.

We ride the heck out of the motorcycles in this area, and if you would like to hike, I would do day trip on the AP trail, easily accessible in Hot Springs, Erwin, Franklin and whole host of other locations. A DAY trip into touristy areas is fine, I have been avoiding the Great Smokey Knife Works, the worlds biggest knife store with a very good knife museum on the top floor since they were selling fake Nazi crap.

They do have a forge where they actually make knives, one at a time, and you will learn quite a bit from the displays.

But why don't you camp at Fontana lake or hike Chimney Rock? Ride the Cherola Skyway or take the curves on the Dragon? Good white water rafting out of Erwin on the Nolochucky river.

the dragon is fun. I have taken the taco up it. and did the 35MPH speed limit just about the hole way. It’s fun as hell. but if you not good with really sharp turns, i’d stay off. you can not cross the line at all. and if you do you are pretty likely to hit someone, also the road is not very wide.

we just came back from our summer trip from Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge area. We had an awesome time there wish had more time in the smokeys.

it started not so good. The battery on my wife's honda odyssey died on the first day there. We had just replaced it with a factory honda battery about 1.5 years ago and had a 100 months warranty with it. but the next closest honda dealership was in knoxville TN. we were kinda out of luck. Luckily for us a local motorist gave us a jump to make it to Auto zone 3.5 miles away to get another battery. (thank you very much sir) we met some really nice folks there. the thing that sucked was that it took almost 35 minutes to drive the 3.5 miles. we were on that main tourist strip and it was july 4th weekend:)

everything after that went beautifully we really enjoyed the activities we did there. white water rafting, zip linning, rope obstacle course, go karting, cades cove, abrams fall. the local food was awesome and the wife really like the big outlet mall there. and i picked up an awesome esse4 knife at that big ass knife shop in sevierville. it was raining just about all 4 days we we there, that didn't really bothered us it actually made the white water rafting more adventurous.

thank you very much gatlinburg, pigeon forge for your great hospitality. here's a few pic of the trip.

does it usually rain this much there? it looked like a rain forest. wife's minivan had a hard time getting up to the cabin a couple times (wheels slipping) there's no way i would of made up to the cabin in the winter time if it was even a little icy.

white water rafting was awesome the kids really liked it. the smile on their face was all worth it.

Not not at all! we have had like 8 days of rain. no rain monday or Tuesday but storms today. We were about 12" over our yearly rain fall that was like a week ago, so we even higher over it now.

Usually we may get 2 or so day of rain. some times it will go 2 or 3 weeks with no rain. Last year we had a month of no rain and were below our yearly rain fall.\, by like a 1’. But this year we have had so much it’s hurting farmers and everyone really. hard to keep up with the mowing.

Also I think a few of the cabins are only open seasonly. but not sure just what i have heard.

I love white water rafting so much fun!

Up in the mountains, it is pretty much a rain forest some years, other years we can actually do outside construction in a timely fashion. As for winter weather, we get between 4-6 FEET of snow a year, we are at 3200 feet and have Firestone Winterforce UV tires with studs on the Taco and Blizzacks on the Jeep...my two wheel drive Dodge Ram was pretty much useless once the snow hit.

Yes I do, TireRack will stud your new tires for $5 each. They just seemed surprised to ship to Tennessee.

And my buddy has 35" duratracs on his Jeep with studs...

thats cool. I’m surprised to hear about people in TN having studded tires.

I’m around knoxville. and even the mountains north of knox get pretty bad, but idk if they get that bad. I know jellico gets pretty bad.

We live in the Cherokee National Forest, next to a National Wilderness area, 1500 feet above the valley and 500 feet above the usual snow line...our first winter in the hills was interesting without a four wheel drive or a snowblower...we did quite a bit of shoveling.

And my buddy with the 35" studded duratracks also has a old F150 with chains on all four corners when the studded duratracks fail.
