So…I’m currently full timing on the road. Decided to buy a Minnie Winnie FLX 2108 trailer which is about 4200 dry. Tongue weight 450. I’ll be traveling light. Was pulling a Casita at 2800 dry. I’m debating doing Sumo Springs or airbags. Hauling it felt fine. I like having a trailer to unhook, have home base and take off exploring and doing some off-roading. Most Full size trucks wouldn’t be able to get to places I like exploring.

    Tacoma modifications:
    1. Dobinsons 111: mid level heavy duty leaf springs
    2. 3” lift
    3. 4.88 regear
    4. Archive garage bump stops with u bolt flip kit
    5. Debating adding Power Stop z36 brakes. Will likely do it, just have to find a good shop. Currently in Arizona. Driving to Oregon in a couple weeks.

    Trailer:
    Reese WDH

im leaning towards the sumos but seems it would just be stiff all the time vs deflating the air bags when I’m not hauling the trailer.

I have the blue Sumo Springs on my truck. I installed them to help out when I'm loaded up with riding/camping gear and hauling a 5x8' utility trailer with two dual sport or two dirt bikes, or when I'm hauling just one bike on a hitch carrier. They work great in either of these two scenarios. When I'm not heading out somewhere, my truck is still sporting a Leer Cap (180-200lbs) and about 75 to 100 lbs of miscellaneous gear in storage totes. So technically the truck isn't empty. In this scenario, the ride (to me) does not feel comprimised.

Installing Sumo's with a ubolt/leaf flip has been done, or as illustrated in this thread it was done on a 5 lug base Tacoma.

FWIW the front brakes are extremely easy to install on the tacos and the Z36's are an amazing upgrade from factory or even their Z23 line.

Exactly what I put on my truck just over a year ago, along with Stop Tech slotted rotors. And yes, easy to replace pads and rotors.

I put the Firestone airbags on mine. I'm pleased with them.

If you have a properly set up WDH then there is no need for airbags or sumo springs or any other helper. The whole idea of the WDH is to spread the load between the front and rear axles. "Properly setup" being the key phrase here. It took me a few hours to get mine dialed in and when I did it squatted the front and rear of the truck 1/2" and the truck and trailer pull like a dream.

I had the Timbren SES and they rode like crap. I have a well set up WDH and realized I didn't them anymore so I removed them. I understand the Sumo's rest on the frame so you probably wouldn't feel every single bump like I did. The SES had a small gap, riding around with no load they were fine.
