Sumo springs

I got a pair of sumo springs today. They are wider than my leafs, is this normal for them? Should I get wider u-bolts or grind down my sumo springs plate?

 

Don't grind anything. U-bolts should "mostly" always be replaced, as they stretch.

 

That's easier. Is it ok since the sumo springs are wider than the leaf springs, the new u-bolts won't fit snug on leaf spring?

 

This is how the blue SS look like on my truck.


I used several "C" clamps on the leaf pack and then loosened the U bolts enough to remove the old bump stops and then install the SS.

 

Ya, that looks better than my set up. I actually called and realized I ordered the kit that bokts to the frame. I'm sending it back for the kit you have.

 

Another question for you. Did you remove that "bracket" thing that's on the frame above the stock bump stop when you put your sumo springs? It's not a big bracket/plate. It looks like it's just a guide for the bump stop.

 

I removed it when I installed my Sumos.

 

If you're talking about this bracket, I left them on.

 

What leaf springs are they? I have the blue Sumo Springs (Blue) love them with 3rd Gen take off leafs, if I could do it again I would install the heavy duty 90-297HD General Springs.

I believe that stock bracket on the frame rail is supposed to mate together at compression.

The springs in the second pic are the General Spring HDs. I am very happy with that choice.

 

Mine did the same thing with recall leafs, it rested on the frame all the time. It took replacing the springs to get what I wanted. The sumos only come into play now when I have a load in the bed.

 

Awesome! So I got mine on today. The passenger side fit nice, but the driver side hung over a little. Think it's ok? Hopefully it's at least ok for driving tomorrow. I can mess with it more after work tomorrow night.

 

Think I'm ok with mine not lin ing up completely?

Do not pull anything off the frame.

The stock U bolts can be reused. Yes ideally you bevel the inner edge of the sumo spring bracket so the ubolt pulls tight across the top.

 

First, I have to agree with what as stated by @nd4spdbh.
Second, IMO - that bracket gives a larger/wider contact area for the SS.

Question for you;
Which SS do you have? They look like the black ones rated for medium and heavy loads. So they could have a larger diameter compared to the blue ones on my truck.

 

They are the medium/heavy load. I use my Tacoma for pest control, so I usually have a 500lb load or so.
