I believe I have some sun damage on the roof of my truck. The owner before me recently repainted everything except the roof. It seemed weird but the truck was super lower miles with zero mechanical problems so I just talked the price down for it. Now the sun and ash from the fires near me (CA) are really getting to the roof. I am wondering if I can repaint it myself with dupli-color spray following a strategy like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUdSUDObwVc?

Looks like your clear coat is damaged. Try waxing that area to see if it helps to restore it a bit. If the paint is oxidized, try a polish. I'd try this before repainting.

You need a repaint. If the rest of the truck has been repainted then why not have the roof repainted professionally?

Or you can do a vinyl wrap. That should be way less money than haing it painted.

Don't waste your time with other steps. Nothing will bring it back.

You can DIY paint like you suggested. But if you don't like the results, you'll have to start over.

You can DIY it with something like www.monstaliner.com. Done in black it wouldn't look bad.

You can have it vinyl wrapped, but that's not cheap when done right. It takes the same level of prep as painting does for the surface to look right.

If the rest of the truck has a decent repaint, and you feel it's a keeper, have a pro paint it correctly.

I think i'm going to go with the repaint. I looked at getting all the supplies at it'd be $300-$400 and a whole weekend to repaint myself. I got some quotes and there's a guy my buddy/mechanic stands by who said he'd do it for $600.
