Thought I'd crosspost this over here since they work so well in our trucks.

    From Sundown...

Next generation SD series in the works (SD-4). Changing to a Neo motor and all new soft parts. More info will be released as available. ETA early 2019...

Looks like a new surround on the new design, hopefully they stitch the cone to the surround so that the separation issue will go away. I have 2 SD3s and i have had to return a set in the past due to separation and have read a lot of reviews about other people having the same issue.

Oh wow, that's the first I've heard of that issue. Haven't had any trouble like that from mine.

Only complaint I have, beside the hard bottom thing, is that it locks up on cold humid days until the truck warms up. I just switched to a ported SA - problems solved :D. No word on if they're going to address the backplate thing...doesn't look like it from the prototype though.

One thing this will offer for sure is a little more clearance for angled enclosures...might make the difference in clearance if it's tight. Should be a good bit lighter too.

Yeah that magnet looks a little smaller than the SD3s. But the separation issue isnt rare it seems... Here is a video i made and sent to Sundown, they eventually replaced the subs free of charge for me, but the comments on the video indicate more people have the same problem...

Inductance is awful lofty on these, but if they're anything like the previous version, then nothing to fret.

There is also a new SA line coming down the pipe!

Dope. I’d like to do a 10 or even 2 x6.5 but it looks like discontinued... will there be any more 6.5’s in the x or sa series?

Well they are stitching the cones now so that's good. I just had to reglue one of the sd3s that sundown replaced for separation issues... Haha. Used some e6000 glue and waited 24 hours and it's back bumping like a champ!

Ya new surround design too. I'm curious why Jacob got away from the inverted tall boy surround. I sorta like that arrangement myself, but I doubt he did it just to do something new & different.

Im curious if i can build a box with enough airspace for some SD4 12s behind my seats....

I have been debating ripping out the rear driver side seat and building a ported box for 2 12s, but i dont want it sticking up over the window. I would also like to remove all the rear seats and build a ported enclosure / platform that will house 2 12s and allow me to store stuff on top and let my dog walk around on top...

3rd option... get 2 rear 40% section seats and build a center console ported enclosure to house an additional 12 on top of my 2 10s...

I have to keep my seats for my kids...still in car seats and will be for awhile....doesnt mean I cannot rock out though.

I was going to do 2 x6.5's in a ported box but cannot get my hands on them now. Was going to get an SD3 but the youtube videos of them making noise (coming apart/bottoming out) scared me. Wouls love to do an x8 but not enough space behind seats...

Maybe once the new SD4 come out I can do 1 10 inch or 2 8's.....I have a rockford bd1000 from back in the day. Only stable down to 2 ohm though but puts out 1100 watts rms.

LOL @ 3rd option. You could always build some faux seats - make 'em look like seats but just be enclosure. Could make them functional if uncomfortable even.

Is it necessary though? A single SA12 on a kilowatt or more tuned to the upper 20s should be pretty sick. My single SA10 on under 600W is way over the top. Although I did just buy an Alpine PDX M12

No, just keep up with the new stuff. It's one of the few uses I have for farcebook & noticed the new posts last time I checked in.

Well to be honest... i feel like the 2 10 i have is underwhelming... I thought i would get more SPL out of them than i am. I probably need to get some OFC 1/0 wire to replace the CCA wire i have now.

I also would like to have a ported box, i just feel like they hit the lower notes better.

I may just need to take my truck to a shop and have some professionals tune it... I have done what i can and it sounds good when i listen to rap / edm but when i get in the mood for some classic rock or some green day then it doesnt sound its best...

I have a premium membership with spotify so i have HD music streaming... maybe its time for that aftermarket HU...

Neodymium instead of ferrite. More power in smaller magnets

I knew they were smaller but thats crazy small. Impressive if it really isbas strong as the magnets on the sd3. I hope the sd4 is considered more reliable. Ive read alot about the sd3 reliability and its scared me in to wanting a jl tw3. Just think sd series have more of what i want.
