Had my new 2017 Taco for 8 days...

Only 300 miles so far and already feeling a slight shudder when decelerating/braking ~20mph. Went to the stealer yesterday to see if my pinion flange angle is correct per the TSB thats out...also having them check my tranny fluid per advice on this site.

After spending all day waiting at the dealer..tranny fluid was low from the factory! Thanks to this forum for letting me know this is an issue...so they they fill it up and drive it (It’s now 5:00pm) - mechanic says he can still feel it vibrating a bit, so they kept it all night to fully drain the tranny fluid to check for metal shavings. Service advisor says they may have to put in a new tranny!!!!

I’m super bummed it’s brand new and this is happening.

Thoughts? What can I do for my piece of mind?

    Thanks Brothers and Sisters...Dan

--Update - Dealer just called. So tranny was fine! They did a scan for any codes/no metal in fluid...filled her up. I brought up one of the later comments @EdgeCrusher about coming off the line full and then fluid moving to the cooler (I have the tow package) or other voids, thus creating a low fluid problem. He said that is absolutely correct. Apparently it was only 1/2 a qt low.

They said they have spoken with Toyota and were advised to just go ahead and order the parts for the TSB (leaf springs and steering damper i believe). Even though apparently my trucks VIN was supposed to have the corrected parts. Now just waiting for parts to arrive.

Let the dealer take care of it.

Lots of members go through this.

When you get the truck back, enjoy it!

Understand you seem to have a decent dealer and a warranty. In the end the truck should be fine.

If vibration is under braking, there has been several out of round rear drums reported, you might suggest checking those.

A trans drain and fill will be fine. But methinks the Service Advisor talks too much when he starts 'new transmission' chatter without more facts. As evidenced by your post, it just scares folks. Even if they tell you it's fine, now you'll always wonder.

Actually - this shouldn't happen. It is possible to build a transmission with a dip stick that allows someone to easily check the fluid level once the engine is warmed up.

Yea that flippin’ service advisor!!! Now i’ll always have my doubts...was thinking to try at least to get some kind of lifetime or extended warranty out of this. How could they sell a brand new truck with low tranny fluid?

Service Advisor was like, “Our mechs have been on the phone with Toyota engineers for a while”...that makes a person feel just fantastic..haha

I am happy the dealer is correctly trying to fix the problem (I think I may be on some list as a PITA...haha), just gives me low confidence in their mechanical skills and also Toyota’s product(or at least the QA/manufacturing).

they sold a shit load of em like that, it's a process to check it now so many
don't bother with a proper check. Best bet is to learn to check it yourself for
    your own piece of mind.

Yea I will definitely be checking over my entire vehicle myself, which is fun for me because I like to tinker, but as I get older just hoping I would find a good dealer with GOOD mechanics I can put my trust in.

Thanks so far for all the helpful advice! I love this forum-it’s helping me stay positive.

How low was the tranny fluid? Probably not low enough to affect the life of the transmission. Seriously, it's probably not an issue. You vibration isn't likely due to low transmission fluid. I say this because people are going to focus on it and it's really not likely something you need to focus on. They top it off and it's done. Generally Automatic Transmissions can be just fine with several quarts missing. I bought a car that ended up needing around a gallon of transmission fluid added to bring it back up (1995 Chevrolet Caprice).... I drove that car from 109,000 miles to 221,000 miles and never replaced or did anything else to the transmission. People are way to quick to hang their truck issues to low transmission fluid around here. If they understood how things worked, they wouldn't.

It's more than likely in the brakes, rotors, drums, alignment.... etc.

Thanks Brother-yea a few others as well! Trending towards the SA kicking up my anxiety level for possibly no reason...he could have handled that in a better way than suggesting right off the bat a tranny replacement, haha. I guess we’ll see what happens-expecting a call before noon. I’ll keep you all posted

First, I would call yota corp and open a case, only to push for the extended warranty, not because I think you will need it, but because of piece of mind. That all being said, this really cracks me up. What would you have said if you got the "normal characteristic of the truck"

So you didn't get the nothing wrong statement, but instead got the we will talk to people to figure out what the issue is and are willing to go as far as replacing a major component on the truck to make it right and thats also wrong.

3rd gens, screwing service departments rather they fix the issue or tell you its normal, they get the shaft.

Service advisors should not exist unless they are “Advising” you well....wish I could just always speak with my mechanic directly.

You can recall that your truck has a warranty and this isn't your problem because of that?

Martinis are good for forgetting stuff.
