    I know this has probably been covered on here somewhere but I have been reading about S/Cs for a while and haven't seen the answer. So my questions are;

    1) Do I always have to use premium gas if I get a S/C? What happens if I don't?

    2) What is the advantage of the URD 7th injector kit? If I have this kit will I always have to use Higher Octane gas.

    3) How hard is it to install a S/C?

I really want a S/C but around here 91+ Octane gas is around .40 cents higher per gallon.

You really should run premium. The actual octane will vary by altitude. I run 91 but I live at 5800 ft. Premium is something like 93 or above at sea level. If you don't run a high enough octane you'll get pre-detonation, leading to knocking and pinging and premature engine death.

The injector kit keeps you from going lean which can create too much heat and melt the piston heads. It also allows you to adjust the timing, putting in more spark retardation than the stock ECM allows.

Can easily be done in a day, even with the 7th.

You've got to pay to play.

There are reports of guys living at high altitudes (Denver, Albuquerque, etc.) that run without the 7th just fine. However, last time I was at the dealership, got to talking to the parts guys about S/Cs and one mentioned they've done many installs without the 7th and the lean code kicks on after a couple days.

To me, the possibility of grenading my engine isn't worth trying to save $900.

lowest price I found on the S/C unit was through trdparts4U, $2600 + free shipping.

URD offers the 7th, runs about $900. You'll want to get the 170 degree t-stat as well.

I could not find the TRD 7th anywhere. I don't think it is available from Toyota anymore. No idea who might have it sitting on a shelf.

I can order one and have it in a day or so. The supercharger price has gone up recently, but it can still be had for about $2700.

As stated above always run premium. It's really only about $3-4 per fill up difference, so pretty negligible IMO. Definitely worth it for me.

In regards to the install it's really not that hard. I did it in a few hours the first time and with no engine maintenance experience prior.

with the ETCS and no EGR, it is fairly straight forward.

You'll have to transplant the throttle body studs from the intake plenum over to the S/C unit.

There is a vacuum port on the backside near the throttle body that a few of us forgot to cap.

The instructions in mine were a bit outdated. If you do have the ETCS, pay attention to the instructions for the later year 4 Runners.

Also, the plenum gasket was in good enough shape to re-use but I ordered another one just in case. Part # 17176-62040

So it's true... if you say "S/C" three times TomTom appears.

Depends on what version you have. Overall it's very simple and pretty straightforward. With a 1st gen, just be careful putting on two nuts that hold down the SC. Other than that just follow the instructions and enjoy the boost!

Personal experience. I don't have my 7th set up yet but my parents 4th gen v6 (2003) would spank my SC'd 2000.

ah are you running 33 MTs? but yeah no fuel mods would make it close..

in my experience head to head in dirt and sand its a spanking but i have fuel mods :/ never raced one on the street, my buddies wont do it and for good reason, the ticked would suck...

You may really want to consider getting the 7th. Stock ECM doesn't provide enough timing retard and stock fuel pump is marginal in supply. Running lean + early spark = bad things.

Also, if you haven't regeared for bigger tires, it isn't a fair comparison.

I've had no issue keeping up with 2nd Gen Tacomas.
