Super White paint chips.

It seems as if my Super White Tacoma is getting a TON of paint chips and nicks. This is my first Tacoma, and am I'm super picky about keeping it looking great...but the chips are making that impossible.

Is the Super White paint notoriously thin or soft? Is this a common issue with Super White trucks?

The white Toyota paint is actually water soluble and I think they put half a coat on. Mine is six months old and has less than 2800 miles and the paint doesn’t look all that great already.

 

It's a primer problem. Super white paint isn't bonding to primer. Well know problem.

 

Agree with those above that white is not a good color for a Tacoma. I try to keep my black taco clean but it does show dirt and scratches after a wax. But it doesn’t peal. Love the Tacoma hate the white. Good luck

Throw the baby out with the bath water. Toyota Corp just told me they know there is an issue but my 2018 white Tacoma with the paint peeling around the window is not covered. I don't get it....they know it's an issue but tough $@#&. Nissan it is! Toyota will never get another cent from unless they make this right.

 

The newer trucks use a different paint and it is basecoat plus clear coat. I don't remember the exact year by my 21 is this way

 

Yea the older 3rd gen had the paint and "clear" in one layer.... one very thin layer, at that.
The front of my rear wheel wells are fubar from the front wheels throwing rocks backwards, even with mud flaps.

 

Is there a source for this?
