I think Toyota made a small mistake in the wording in Q7, should have been diagnosis not repair. I think what they’re trying to say is, you can come to the dealer now so we can tell you if the condition your truck is exhibiting is covered. We’ll then schedule the repair once the second letter is received.

I’m betting the dealerships will be outsourcing a fair number of the repairs to auto body shops and that’s part of the logistics that needs to be arranged. The campaign used some third party shops for other vehicles.

Perhaps the OP was referring to this letter in his original post, would’ve been great to include there.

As is your response. And 'misleading?' Perhaps you're not one of the affected owners who've had paint literally falling off their Tacoma's. Many of whom have also 'ranted' to Toyota and their dealerships for years now, with ZERO culpability for their defective and substandard paint. So yeah, it's a rant! And if you're a bit unsure around the subject matter, this is a Tacoma Forum and any owner of one with the Super White Paint get the point.

Chill. It’s an inanimate object with a cosmetic issue. Toyota has acknowledged the problem. And I too own a 040 Tacoma.

    1) it’s not a recall
    2) the customer support program hasn’t died, Toyota is preparing logistically to make repairs while at the same time having customers come in to have their issue diagnosed and reviewed for program coverage
    3) as a super white owner I’m familiar with the program and still had no idea what you were talking about.

If you really wanted to rant you could have said, hey I got the letter stating that Toyota is not yet starting repairs on the super white paint issues and I’m pissed that it’s taking them so long to start doing those repairs. And then it would have been an accurate rant at least and everyone would’ve known what you were talking about.

So yes, your thread title is super misleading and full of inaccuracies, even though your frustration is well placed and fair, and shared by many. At least your truck qualifies for the program, mine has the same identical issues and may never be covered. I already shelled out $1700 for a door repaint. You will eventually be taken care of.

Anyone know what manufacturing plant they are talking about in the letter people have received? I am in the market for a 3rd gen white dbl cab and hoping to avoid the paint peel problem if possible. I know, I know, prob not gonna happen :).

I contacted Toyota a year ago about the Super White (or..."Ice Cap") paint flaking off on my 2019 Tacoma, and the lady I spoke to processed my VIN and said I was eligible for a correction under the factory coverage. She also said many, many claims had been filed...but that Toyota did not have a repair solution. I haven't heard a word from Toyota since then! Has anyone here actually been successful at getting their trucks repainted by Toyota yet...or have they just swept this under the rug, hoping the issue would go away?

I have a '12 and the problem has been going on for several yars.
Last time I was at the dealer (couple of years easy) I showed it to the service manager and he said he had never seen that before.
I just got off the phone with them, and they said my truck did not fall under the "program".
    Off to Corp I go.

As someone that had their frame replaced on their 2005 with 521,000 miles on it under that Recall, I've got no predication for thinking I'm going to get screwed here, but from the tone of many of these posts, I'm a little concerned.
Would love to hear from anyone that got this taken care of.

If it gives anyone some sense of peace, after back and forth with Toyota USA and providing pictures, receipts etc, I was just reimbursed for having my drivers side door re-painted out of pocket for this issue.

Next step is going to a dealership with a in house body shop to get rear door sill and under hood taken care of.

After pestering Toyota forever (see post above) ...I'm finally scheduled to take my truck in the first week of December to my local Toyota dealership body shop to have it repaired. Hope it turns out right.

Update. Got the recall done. Toyota provided a loaner painted both front fenders, all 4 doors, and both A pillars. Included a new windshield since the original gets broke when it is removed to paint the A pillars. Work looks good to me.

Please forgive my ignorance. I have a 2022 and it is white. Where do I find the paint code # nor do I know the (name) of the white paint color. I have not been notified by Toyota about a paint issue and I have not experienced any issues as yet.

I just went and looked at my paperwork from the dealer when I bought the truck. It says (White 0040/lA42) Baja California, Mexico. So I just answered my own question. Sorry for the bother.
