    Hi,

I have been snooping on here for a while, but this is my first post. I have a 02 Tacoma 4x4 with a first gen Supercharger. When the supercharger is not calling for boost the truck runs great. When you put your foot down I get a horrible knocking/ pinging in the engine.

My mechanic has put cooler plugs in it which has helped but not solved the problem . I have read a lot about the 7th injector and also the 6 larger injectors from URD, but not sure which route to go, and even if this is the fix or just a cover up to the issue.

Other people with the 7th injector or the larger 6 injector kit, do your engines still ping and did they ping before the kits?

My mechanic says we can just tune the engine and that piggy back systems work intermittently and have many problems, is this the same for the 7th injector? Is there a better route?

Any help would be much appreciated. My truck has is an 02 with a 4" lift and 295/70/17 rims and tires. I was thinking of getting the 2.1 pulley if I was to get one of the URD kits. Any other ideas people recommend?

    Thanks

Could be detonating due to the higher compression from the super try larger octane fuel might help

You need more fuel, I would recommend the 7th injector
You can't tune the stock ecu, you have to get a piggyback

I have a similar setup and experience with the supercharger as you. I bought a used Tacoma with the supercharger and other performance parts. I noticed the ping/knock as well. I researched and came up a lot of people going with the URD 7th injector kit. I ordered up the URD kit and a smaller pulley. I figured if I was spending the coin to get the tuning kit I would spend the extra $100 to get even more gain out of the tuning. I installed the kit and rebuilt the supercharger when I put the pulley on. I did all of this on 6/15. I still need to get my system tuned, but I can tell already that the truck runs better and has more power with the limited boost I've been giving it. I also bought an AEM wideband kit, and EVERYONE with a supercharger should have this gauge kit!

Long story short, buy the URD 7th injector kit and never look back.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Decision has been made and I am buying the URD 7th injector tomorrow. I use the highest grade fuel I can buy where I live so this sounds like the way to go.

Rockbmx1 glad to hear you have a similar set up and so far its working good. What size pulley did you go for?

Do not make it ping. If its pinging under boost don't lay into the throttle or else you will be rebuilding when the piston shatters. And yea the 7th injector would fix it.

Alright, I have heard everything about more fueling, but nothing about what feeds the fuel.

Have you upgraded your fuel pump? Have you replaced your fuel filter?

If no, then you seriously need to do both. URD also sells a fuel pump upgrade kit.

Whatever pump comes with the vehicle from the factory, is what it gets. The s/c is installed at the dealership.

So clearly if the pump was designed for an N/A setup, it will have a limited range of capability with the boost added. If any, depending.
