I am looking to purchase a 2005 Supercharged Tacoma, in CO, that has been heavily upgraded. From headers to exhaust to suspension lift and of course the supercharger. The owner states that the supercharger was professionally installed at 70k miles. The truck failed emissions today because of HC and NOx. It failed with a HC 1.6 (pass = 1.2) and failed with a NOx of 3 (pass = 2). From my understanding the engine seems to be running lean. Should I consider this truck a possible lemon and move on due to it possibly running lean with a supercharger for the last 40,000 miles in Colorado or does the engine most likely still have another 100K in her? Any and all advice appreciated. This would most definitely be my dream truck if I was to purchase it.

If it was an amazing deal and you where ready for a possible project then I'd say go for it. Otherwise its probably safer to find a clean stock truck and upgrade it yourself.

Your dream truck isn't one that doesn't pass smog at 12 years old and only 110k miles.

Personally I would never buy a vehicle that a person messed with the motor. If it came from the factory that's one thing, but who knows what he has done to it and how it's been treated. Too many unknowns for the price.
