So I bought a 2012 tacoma with a supercharger. TRD Sport, manual, 4.0 with SC already installed. Problem is I live in Florida and the truck is in New York. It is about a 1500 mile trip. I am comfortable with boosted cars, my daily is a 2.0 Turbo diesel VW. I would drive that car across the country 10 times. Never had a super charged vehicle before.

Is it safe to make this drive? To be running that blower for 12 hours a day for 2 days straight? The other option is to ship it which will be about a few hundred more. My plan is to fly up and pick it up, drive it to my parents house in CT to change the oil and plugs and full tuneup, then drive it home to Florida the next day.

Anyone think driving it so far is a bad idea?

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
You bet it is safe and fun. When I had mine I did some 4k trips with up-to 20 hours running the engine. A supercharger is designed for long run times and actually will be running most of the time you drive your truck, called "parasitic drag". Eaton makes the unit and it's a "roots" design that is very durable.

The TRD supercharger is a well-made machine, it lives to do what it was designed to do and acts like a natural part of your motor (so long as you put premium fuel in your tank, if you run into a situation on your trip where you can't then do your best to keep it out of boost until you find the next pump with premium). I like to keep a bottle or two of octane booster in my car in case I run into that scenario, or get a bad tank of gas. You can tell when that happens as the motor will ping in high gear/high boost. I've only had that happen once though.

Nope it's a vehicle, as long as it's in good mechanical condition and maintance has been done recently like you spoke of, it'll be just fine like any other vehicle going on a long trip.

I've done Seattle to SF in a day, 14 hours. No big deal. It is an OEM that Toyota covers under their 5 year 60k mile warranty, not a poorly designed aftermarket kit. Well assuming it is the OEM TRD blower.

    you will be fine.

Buddy tows his 6000lbs toy hauler, 3rd gear 4-4.5k rpms on his boosted taco up the steep grades of the 14 and I 5 and never has to worry about it.... the whole package is just as bulletproof as the NA'd 1GR and its a pretty damn bulletproof motor.
