Supercharger Boost Problem

    Hey folks,

    I just did a weekend trip to Tahoe, and as soon as the truck got to elevation, something happened with my S/C. I figured it was a loss of boost due to the elevation even though it was drastic and that it would go away once I got back. Unfortunately it didn't.

    Right now, the S/C operates normally up to 0 PSI. Once it gets to 0 PSI, it stops and I get no more boost. If I run the truck WO throttle, as soon as my RPM reach around 4-4500RPM, the boost kicks in fully at about 8 PSI.

    Any thoughts on what happened? The belt seems the right tightness and I don't hear any squealing or slipping.

    This is a Black Gen 2 Supercharger on a 2001 3.4 V6. Truck has 148k, supercharger has 128k, and was just rebuilt a month ago.

    ummmmm. So it goes to 0 from vacuum then jumps to 8 psi at the stated rpm? ya pull the negative to see if that helps reset the problem. subbed for outcome

    Unbolt the exhaust on the flange before the first cat and slide it out of the way. Go for a quick test drive and see. It will be lout af, but easy diagnostic.

    I only say it's the cats because you are describing exactly what happened to mine. There is no reason you should be boosting 8 psi unless the cats are clogged enough to increase manifold pressure.

    If it's not that, there's really only a couple other possibilities. Could be vacuum leak or the vacuum bypass actuator is about to shit the bed.

    I do boost 8 psi at WO normally, but not from 0 straight to 8. I figured you were speaking from experience so I'll see what I can find out.

    I had a clogged cat and was getting cylinder misfires and certainly wasn't able to get up in engine load or rpm.

    Boost is mechanical, not electric. ECU reset can reset fuel trims and timing retard. But the factory ECU only allows for 7 degrees of retarded and certainly won't cause a boost lag and sudden burst of boost to 8 psi.

    No boost lag. The bypass acutuator is vacuum based. Meaning under vacuum, the valve allows some air to be recirculated rather than forced into the intake. Under boost, the valve closes and directs all air into the intake.
