Is it a bad idea to SC a truck this old with this much mileage? Is it a waste of $? My last 1st gen sold with 250K and prlly still able togo another 100K.

I wouldn't do it even if the motor seems fine just because of the miles it has it might stress out the motor and break something

I wouldn't do it period, just because you're basically paying a few thousand dollars to force yourself to buy premium fuel, kill your gas mileage and put a constant cloud of worry that your engine could completely fail at any moment out of warranty in exchange for a couple of cool points and a pleasant feeling in your stomach when you take off at a green light.

Already buy premium(cost vs mileage increase = wash and better for higher mileage vehicle)

heard gas mileage not too bad and actually better around town/city since FI helps in low tqe scenario

Not too scared of engine failure, others with TRD SC mention how good it is and dont plan on cranking the PSI.

No warrenty for long time now

Cool Points and stomach feel and some BAMF seems OK

Im towing stuff and I heard the SC helps with it and possibly helps keep it from shifting so much (isnt that beneficial?)

Since when is higher octane better for a high mileage engine?
More octane is required for higher compression and/or advanced ignition timing. I doubt your compression ratio has been increasing over the years.

I could think of a few things better spent than $5k on 7psi of whirring noise. Unfortunately when you supercharge a tacoma it doesn't

    1.) make it a sportscar
2.) make the speed limits on the streets you drive on any higher

    but thats just my 2¢

DO IT... I love mine and wouldnt trade it for the world. For those that say gas milage drops, that is BS. I am getting 18mpg out of a lifted supercharged 6 spd. With the supercharger you have to drive it differantly. The SC gets better milage if you accelerate quickly and actually keep it slightly higher in the rev range than a N/A engine. Mine is happiest around 2500 rpm, I see 24mpg routinly around town and on the freeway.

I rape the piss out of mine and stoplights end up bringing my milage down to about 18mpg but other than that it rocks.

I will say it again... DO IT...

Hell no, it is totally ok, i SC'ed my last truck at 97000 and ran it until 175k, and it is still running around town. If you don't go insane on the boost, it will be just fine for another 100k.

Hell, there is even a video floating around of me doing a 2nd gear, supercharged rev limiter, 4hi doughnut in a wash somewhere in Butcher Jones ORV in Arizona. All you see is a dust tornado and hear the supercharger screaming and bouncing off the rev limiter!!!

Down low you hear the growl of my exhaust (Magnaflow cat back) and then at about 2-2500 it goes from growl of the exhaust to whine of the SC then the whine just gets louder and louder... I wont lie, its adictively awesome.
