I just got an 08 DCLB and I'm really glad I came across your thread. I am more confident in my trucks stock off road abilities and know where I want to go with mods.
I have nowhere near the $$$ you do, but my brother is a skilled welder, so hopefully he can fab me some cool sliders and skids. I will probably go with name brand on the bumpers because I like the look, but who knows.

I would like some suggestions on shocks/less expensive suspension components or other easy, useful mods if you dont mind.

Hogwash! Maybe I'm just going mid-travel....you don't know:)

iluvthemountains- Hey thanks a lot man. Honestly I'm going all out because I've always wanted a truck that's completely outfitted. I am so impressed with what this truck can do in stock form. I wish I had video of myself crawling up these 3' rock ledges on the weekend. That would be one hell of a photo.

This far the most useful mods I've done are
    Good tires(slightly larger than stock)
    Removed swaybar
Deflators(not a mod but damn does airing down help).

Not sure what I can recommend for inexpensive suspension setups as I haven't really looked into them very much. Honestly I was debating whether or not to lift the truck in fear of making it worse.. But I doubt that will happen :D. The front bumper was an extremely large help. The extra clearance in the front is very very useful. I love the current mods on the truck. If I was not going "big" with it, I would probably get a 1-2 inch lift, and cut it a lot to fit either 33 or 34 inch tires. I like my trucks low, with large tires(you'll see:p). Then I would fit skid plates/bumpers/sliders/other armor. Then an air locker. That would be a beast of a truck. Pretty much exactly what I'm doing now except smaller lift/tires. Any more questions let me know, I'd be happy to help where I can.

I'll try. I promise nothing. However I just spent 3+ hours upholstery cleaning my truck and RainXing all the windows. I did such a good job that subsequent applications of RainX started beading up on the glass and running off. :p

Yes. They're in the garage though. Got allpro 3". Originally I wanted the expo leafs, but they are 3 months away. If these sag, I will switch to those when they are available.
