Saturday night, my grandma, who lives alone, fell in her bathroom. This happened at 8pm. She was unable to get to a phone till 5am and then called my aunt who lives down the road.

They tried to move her to the bed but she went into convulsions and had severe vomiting. The EMT's came and took her to the hospital.

The CT scan revealed cerebral hemorrhaging in the cerebellum. This caused a stroke which affected her balance and equilibrium. She cannot walk or stand.

Yesterday, she was moved from critical care to the neurology unit. The doctors said the bleeding had stopped. My parents went there yesterday and are in the hospital with her today. She's not doing good. Her mental capacity is gone and she realizes that my dad (her son) is there but doesn't quite know him.

My sister and brother are going there tonight and I have to remain here in CO, she is WA state. I am lucky I saw her in June but its still freakin hard to stay here while they are out there. That is the part that is ending up being the toughest for me. I have things on my mind and I need to focus on class and the academy but its downright a fuckin nightmare.

She is 87 and her name is Billy.

I am very sorry to hear about this. Unfortunatly, this happens a lot. I know what it's like. I have had one of my grandparents fall several times. My grandma is at risk for falls as well. It is never a good feeling. I have taken care of a lot of patients that this has happened to. You and your grandma are in my thoughts today. Hang in there! And talk to your school to explain the situation. They should work with you through this difficult time.

Just talked to my mom, she says that her gut feeling is that my grandma is slipping into a coma, that she may never recover from.

The last thing she said to my dad was, "I'm collecting flowers for the Master's bouquet, and I'm trying to give them to him, but its taking so long to get there."

Sounds like you have a good relationship with her. Maybe call someone there and have them put the phone to her ear. That way you can say whatever you need to. It'll be emotionally hard, but I think you will feel better. I'm sure she would love to hear your voice. Whatever happens, I wish you and your family the best.

Not to thread jack but im unfortunately in a career where people die all the time, friends, strangers and loved ones. Five in the last 11 months. One thing i found that works extremely well for me is to remember the good times and the good life that they spent here on earth. The last is especially true for the elderly who had a long prosperous life. Imagine, without them we wouldnt be here most likely, just not possible! So you can reflect on what they did in the happiest years of their lives rather than how and when it ends. Most importantly we should always strive to be the best men we can be, if not you really let all there work to build a family become a waste.
