He still has to build a full cage and tray for the rear. That’ll take a while.

More progress on the bed rack. Made it so I can reuse the stock tire chain hoist to lift the tire. Needed the room in the bed for stuff besides the tire.

Huge shout out to @Yacob_D for helping me with the tube bending and assembly.

Will have the tent mounted later in the week for the first trip out.

Looks real good Jason, really like the reuse of the spare tyre winch.

Hopefully it holds up with the heavy tire and wheel hanging from it.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
A couple of small gusset tubes in the corners, next to the tire would go a long way towards stiffening that up. Even plate would work, but tube look more trick!

I was thinking of some dimpled died gussets in the corners. But the structure is solid. More worried about the stock tire hoist holding up.

I would suspect that the stock spare hoist will be stout enough. That 90#+ wheel up there wanting to wiggle around will put more side to side stress on those welds than you may imagine. Try it for the weekend and look the welds over closely when you get home for cracks, you may be right. Overkill is never a problem, though.

I guess it would matter what size tubing you are using and the 'flavor' (4130, etc.)

I'm with Rich, I think the hoist is stout enough to hold up.

Tube is 1.5" 1/8 wall welded structural tube. Yeah I'm not even planning on painting it before this trip just in case.

You should be OK, mild steel is a bit more forgiving of flex. Paint? Racers out there don't even paint their frames! (Though, they are using 4130 CrMo, which is a bit more resistant to rusting.)

After the last trail run I noticed my gas door was somewhat open
    20250306_173935.jpg

Appon further investigation the plastic stud that the door latched on was gone.
    20250306_173953.jpg

So I got a new one plus a few spares.

    Installed and good as new

For after trail repairs, hope they are all like this :fingerscrossed:
