What's the best way to address rust on the trailer hitch receiver?

I assume using a wire brush wheel on a chordless drill to remove all the rust, then apply a solid coat of Rust-oleum spray paint?

    TIA

I’ve been there. I did exactly what you described. I know this isn’t that helpful without a before pic but:

I used “rust tough” and it matched perfect, looked great, but the rust came back after a year in some spots, albeit much lighter.

I generally prefer Krylon for application consistency. It’s probably operator error, but I get fewer runs using it vs other brands.

I’ve switched to “rust reformer” from rustoleum for rusty crap though. Hasn’t been long enough to know if it’s better than the Krylon, but I’m hopeful.
It’s worth noting that rust-oleum is just the brand name. It doesn’t do anything special the other brands don’t, unless you pick one of their products with special claims
