    hi,
I have a 2016 tacoma 3rd generation v-6 with a idle surge. This surge only seems to happen when the engine is cold and not on fast idle. Additionally, the surge happens in gear not in park.I bought this truck used and got the extended warranty but everytime I take the vehicle to the dealer they cant duplicate the problem so nothing gets done.My truck has 30,000 miles and has had this problem intermittently since I bought it. Has anyone else had/has this problem? Is this common with tacomas. Please help!

Mine does the same thing, also only when it is cold. I've never brought it to the dealer to have it looked at. Let us know if you ever figure it out and rectify the issue.

Has it been checked for stored codes? What use the rpm range of the surge, and how rapid is it?

There is a TSB for cold idle surge while turning the steering wheel

I also noticed that when my truck was new but I haven't noticed it lately. I researched it but never bothered to get it fixed. Pretty sure @shakerhood hit the nail on the head, though, if my memory serves.

I have the same thing happen on my 2016 DCSB 4X4 OR MT6. Not all the time but usually when I 'm on a hill in 1st gear with the clutch engaged to keep me in place without the brake. I always wonder why but other then that all G.

You really should not use the clutch to hold the truck on a hill, you could always use the handbrake if you were afraid of rolling back.

Never said I was afraid of rolling back, I'm old school so no problems handling a clutch on an incline. Not a fan of using the hand brake. All G $.02

Maybe the truck sat at the car lot for a while before you purchased it . Oxidation occurs
Have you run the vin number at the Toyota owners website to see whats been done to the truck at the dealership ?
I am thinking it may be worthwhile to give the throttle body and mass air flow sensor a quick cleaning . They are both very easy to do making this 2 less steps to take in diagnosing your problem
