Seems I’ve searched and read threads about this issue for six months. First off
    2007 Tacoma 4.0 crew sr5
    Auto 152k current
    New plugs at 140k

    No check engine light, ever.

During acceleration, probably 3/4 throttle, the truck surges. All I can explain it is like it hits 3 power bands. Something is restricting the fuel or timing or computer. I found one thread about the secondary cats being stopped up and those symptoms fit mine to a T. So I bought an AFE cat delete kit and installed yesterday. Also did a trans drain and fill twice, not because of the problem, but because it needed it. Still have the same surging feeling. Only think I’ve thought of is I may need to disconnect the battery to reset the computer after the cat delete. Thanks in advance!

Yes as they say in IT, when you have a problem of any kind, “did you turn it on and off again?”

But humor aside; did you check if there are leaks anywhere in your intake?

Access to a scanner and parameters would be insanely helpful here but it sounds like either your TPS or your MAF is bad.

I have not checked for any leaks yet. Gonna do a mass sensor cleaning and a intake cleaning. I can also take it back up to the shop and hook a scan gauge to it, will a problem show up without a CEL?

It is possible that a code will occur without a CEL, yes.

3/4 throttle...? As in 75% throttle? Pretty sure the truck, at least mine, would surge like this

Checked for a correct seat of the air filter housing, all good. Visually inspected all vaccum hoses. Gonna go unhook the battery right now for a hour or so and see if that re sets anything after the cat delete
