Got in the truck today and noticed a smell of dry/dead grass. Got home and checked the cabin air filter and found this:eek:

The filter was chewed slightly, and I think something was building a nest for the last day or two. I smelled the filter and it smelled like grass, no smells of urine and no signs of feces.

I checked the engine air filter and it was clean, and I can't see any visible signs of chewed wires nor where the critter is getting into the vehicle.

The truck is always parked with windows rolled up and hood closed.

Has anyone had this problem before. I looked but cant see where the air intake is for the cabin filter. Is it behind the passenger side fender linings? Or does it brand off of the main engine intake?

Haha no, I was half expecting a squirrel baby or something to jump out when I was cleaning it out though.

    OakleyTRD: Thanks:D

So heres the battle plan. I got it all cleaned out with my car detailing vacuum and after I cleaned it out I put the hose on the blower end and blasted out the vents, didn't see anything other than a few strands of grass.

Tha majority of the grass was above the filter in the top of the cabin filter box. Vacuum made quick work of that.

Does anyone have a location of the air vent intake. I'm going to put some metal mesh over the hole. The stuff you see on the bumpers of civics haha.

Not in a Taco, but my sister had rats nesting in her new Suburban and they wrecked the wiring. Was a LOT of money to fix.

    UPDATE: SOLVED.

Took my day off and troubleshot the rodent problem.
Been checking the filter daily to see if any more signs of the rodent were present. None were found.

I popped the windshield cowl off and saw exactly where the system brings outside air in. If you pop the cowl off and look on the passenger side, it is immediatly obvious.

Went to home depot and got some 1/2" by 1/2" metal screening and screwed that into place...There was 2 existing screw holes from factory...maybe they knew this would be an issue?

or maybe they didn't put a screen on when the truck was built!! Remember they are built in north america or mexico now...not in Japan. Could be a quality control thing!!!
