V6 6MT 4x4 taco's get absolute garbage MPG (19mpg highway on the window sticker). If 90% of your weekly driving is in "city-like" conditions highway miles mean nothing.

For half a minute I thought someone was going to have something good to say about milage. Oh well, somethings never change. Running 34" tires, MTRs, and trying hard I can knock down 19mpg. In Florida, flat like a mother fucker.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I have DCLB and I get 21+ MPG on highway all the time. (has to be summer or atleast above 50F) City at that time is depending on traffic 16-19 MPG
My absolute best Avg MPG for a trip was 28 MPG :D but it was all Highway running 93 Octane. at 50 MPH with no traffic at all.

I can also tell when the ethanol content is higher in the gas. On my ODO will show about 280 with lower content and 240 with higher content of ethanol. Haven't been willing to pay the extra lately for ethanol free.

Mrothwell said he(or she) has "NEVER" been able to see 20mpg. I simply suggested a way to possibly see 20mpg:facepalm:

I'm sure if I hypermiled and hugged the right shoulder going 55 mph I'd get better mpgs, but whats the point. I'd get run off the road and its not realistic. I currently don't drive a whole lot so MPGs aren't that big of a deal. If I suddenly had to start driving a ton, I'd sell this thing off pretty quick.

I am avg about 19 I think, I dont drive aggressively, but I do go 77 when the speed limit is 70. Also when on cruise control, I deactivate it when going up a grade so the engine doesn't race me up the hill @ 3000+ rpm.

I definitely found that the engine has to break in to get a little better mileage. I'm only on my fourth tank full so far, but saw a steady increase with the last three tanks (see Fuelly below).

all the way to about 10k. Do not waste money on premium fuel you will just make the refiners happy. Might trying running a little higher air pressure. Use the chalk test to make sure it is not too much.

That's a bit low, if you are 'reasonable' with the gas pedal. If this was the first fill-up then I might be skeptical the dealer didn't give you a full tank when you drove it off the lot.

I live in a cold climate, and there's a several mpg difference between summer and winter miles. In the summer I get 21-23 on the highway at 55-65., and 18-20 in mixed driving. I live in central Maine so we really don't have cities in the sense most people understand.

I'm averaging 19 to 20 mix use. Feather the gas and coast to a red light

because prerunner...... but ya coasting up to things save some gas for sure, and the brakes will last longer too, hate when ppl have to race to get nowhere.

Today's fill up was 15 gallons, (just under the 1/4 tank line on the gauge) and it was typical business driving for me this week... a mix of highway and town (city) driving. I am not a racer, I don't jack rabbit start, I am 57 years old, drive with traffic... that's usually 70 on the highway max.

4WD Double Cab V-6 Automatic, driving in 2WD:

I GOT 14.8 MPG... and that has been the norm lately here in San Diego County. 15 MPG daily mixed driving is good. It used to be 16 MPG average, but I think more ethanol is in gasoline here than before.

On the highway, I get 17-18 MPG, but once you do some city driving, it will take you back down.

Best ever, 20 MPG... no load in truck, posted speed limits (65-75) going to Arizona and back. Did a 2 tanks of premium (91 octane) one way, and Regular (87 octane) the other way... Regular actually did a tiny bit better! Even if Premium was the better of the two, it was too close to pay the extra for Premium.

On Mexican (Pemex) gas, which has NO Ethanol, I easily get 19 MPG on the highway, fully loaded, driving fast, some stop and go in towns.

I find that the Tacoma rides very well when trying to coast to lights it drops speed well. That may be why some people get less MPG than they'd like I bet the feeling of speed bleeding off makes them want to increase speed and use more fuel.

I find if I accelerate smoothly and try to avoid exceeding 2500 RPM (the only time I do is during passing and interstate merging) and stay under 68 MPH I average nearly 21 MPG. If I drove mostly highway I bet I'd easily get 22~23 MPG. This is running either 87 or 89 octane. 2015 V6 SR5 4x4 automatic roughly 7400 odo.

What you spend in gas you'll save in maintenance repairs. It all pans out. In all seriousness these trucks get horrible gas mileage but they are the #1 selling mid size truck so Toyota figures why fix it.

I never put in anything below mid-grade and like others mentioned earlier, try to avoid ethanol if possible. Carry a Flippac everywhere I go - 300-ish pounds - and I'm an old bastard so I use the "wherever I'm going will be there when I get there" logic and I imagine that helps a bit. I average 21.5mpg.
