After having been through multiple tires on the same terrain, I can say without a doubt, the materials a tire is made from has plenty to do with resistance to chunking.

The General Grabber X3 (a mud-terrain) has been the best tires I've ever had in this regard by far (and is why I dropped the name earlier in the thread).

As for best tire type, unless you do a lot of soft sand driving (dunes, beach driving), MT will pretty much always be better offroad. The high void tread doesn't just allow mud a way out, but it also gives better opportunities to grip the terrain better too (bigger claws for better traction, if you will). It also increases the contact pressure of the rubber that is in contact with the terrain. The downside is they're louder and they wear faster on pavement. On smooth clean rock (think Moab), an AT might have slightly more grip, but not if there sand/dirt/dust present on the rock.

RT (and similar) tires are like a cross between an AT and MT. If your truck is a DD, but you still want the most offroad performance practical that doesn't completely kill street performance (or you just can't seem to make up your mind between AT & MT), a RT might be the answer (they will wear & handle better onroad than MT will, but will also be a little louder than an AT).
Tires are all about compromise between street ride & handling + onroad wear, and offroad performance. The RT provides another point you can choose to balance those characteristics to your own use.

I have the 265/75-16's KO3s. They were on the truck when I picked it up a few months ago and so far no complaints, they seem to do really well in the rain and overall feel pretty good on the street and the little bit of dirt roads I drive.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
The KO3s were way better in the snow than the AT4 Falken, on dry pretty even. This was stopping from 30 mph and starting getting up to 30 mph in snow. Even if you take the extra 90 feet and cut it in half that still sucks.

Excellent info. I'm considering R/Ts given my truck isn't DD.

I hesitated on R/T mainly for added weight without researching much, but seeing that they are weigh the same as A/Ts. As a matter of fact, Falken Wildpeak R/Ts are actually 2 lbs lighter than Wildpeak A/T, which is what I'm considering.
