    I personally feel it's more of a fashion statement. Don't get me wrong, it looks good and does serve a purpose with the cord but I'd rather buy a bag of 550 cord and stuff it into my pack/vehicle.

    i made a keychain lanyard out of some. you can get 100' on Amazon for like 7 bucks and make your own.

    one of the trails here has an area where you hug a rock and like slide across the path side ways, there is tie points where you can clip your rope to a tie down point so if you slip you wont just fall off. my rope was not really strong enough, so i just used my bracelet and it worked well on the spot
