    Howdy Folks,
My 2014 T-Force is my second Tacoma and loaded with extras, which is why I purchased it. Just turned 82,00 mi. and the left rear Bilstein Shock seal has blown out and leaked al the fluid out of it. Also the rear drive shaft has started shaking and making lots of noise at any speed over 60 mph. Very little off road driving and only pulled a trailer with my motorcycle on it two times. I thought these were pretty much bullet proof trucks. Anyone else have similar issues?

"Loaded with extras" is the truck lifted?

Well depends on maintenance. Sounds like this one wasn't maintained properly or just time for some parts to need maintenance.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
its a 2014 with 82k miles on it. Shocks are wear items, replacement would be pretty standard after that amount of time and miles. Its used, so you dont know what the other person did with the truck. And whats a T-Force?

    Yeah.
Original Bilsteins should give you around 50K miles, plus or minus 20K. Some people keep them longer, but even if they haven't blown a seal they are no longer doing their job effectively. Time to replace.

Check your center support bearing. Rubber has probably degraded, time to replace.

It's like the TX package. Different wheels and tires, headache rack with some KC style lights, and 5100's. Stuff like that

Some kind of dealer mark up fluff?

@Spillbert not sure how you know the D/S is shaking, but a failed u joint or center bearing would be where to start looking.

@ 82k, OE shocks are done anyway, assuming that's what you have.

    Are you the original owner?

It is not lifted and has no after market modifications. All the required Toyota maintenance has been done along with oil, filter and air filter every 3000 miles. Being an A/P aircraft mechanic, I am extremely big on continuing maintenance. These are the original OEM Bilstein shocks that came on it. Up till 4 days ago it has worked perfect, even pulled a couple of Jeeps out of the ditch in front of my house during this winters ice storm that hit us! Thanks for the reply!

Well seems like it's just time. A well maintained Toyota typically is figuratively 'bullet proof'. But mechanical parts all have a wear limit.

I am the original owner. I did figure the u-joints were causing the vibration and noise, which the dealer confirmed, just can't imagine them going out at 82,00 mi. or the shocks for that matter either.

They wouldn't be aftermarket to him if it came from the dealer that way. A TRD Pro has Rigid fogs and Fox shocks, are those aftermarket?

I'll bet the service department says "yes" to that.

Normal wear items. Shocks, U-joints and carrier bearings are all “moving” parts and wear out after 7-8 years and 80 000 miles.

Sometimes parts just wear out. No rhyme or reason. Ive seen 5 year old belt tensioners fail but my Mazda still had its OE belt tensioner on it 21 years later when I finally changed it. Vehicles are just like that.

5100s in the rear on a stock height truck could be too long
