No offense taken...That was my first thought.... Most of the time I know what I am talking about, but when it comes to suspension, I know very little, so you are right, they mostly likely do take advantage of both of those factors.

On another note....The alignment is good and the tires are properly inflated (just had it checked), so that leaves suspension and wheel well rubbing.

Well now that I know that I would say go with whay you can afford. suspension comonents are one of those things that you pay for what you get.

I would go with a good adjustable coil over in the front so you can get the ride hight that you want along with a good UCA either Total Chaos or Light Racing.

As for the rear if your leaf springs are still in good condition you could just replace the shock.

Well BFA has been kind enough to mention that he will take a look at it for me and I will make my decision from there. I do off road quite a bit so I will spend what I have to in order to get some good suspension. thanks for your help, I am going to look into some coilovers if thats whats needed. What do you think about the Fox 2.5 with the res and the Total Chaos UCA package? They are $1400 at offroad warehouse and the UCAs are $675. Is that a good deal?

Isn't there a group buy for tc uca's? I have light racing uca's and they work perfectly well if your interested in saving a little for something else

Also reservoirs from what I understand just help the coilover from over heating and unless your doing some hardcore racing you shouldn't achieve those temps. I have icon coilovers and they are awesome and have no reservoir and work just fine even after I beat the piss out of my truck. Though I would get any 2.5 C/O icon fox king sway away would be any of my choices

    ^^^ X2

As for the coilovers its really personal preference. I have Toytechs and they work for my needs. If I off roaded more I would personally look in to some Icons or Kings if I had the money.

Fox is a good brand as well too as for the Res's if you off road a lot and can afford it then I say go for it! Other than that good luck with your purchase, shop around, do your research and dont be afraid to questions there is a wealth of knoweledge here.

Going to resurrect an old thread here, but I ended up going with the King coilovers from Down South and I have to say that they have the best customer service I have ever experienced. They should be here this weekend and I will be installing them myself. It took a long time to figure out why the tires were cupping but after a closer look and a change in tire size again, it was actually the suspension that caused all the problems. I ended up parking it for a while I drove a car to save gas and miles on the Tacoma but I totaled my car 2 weeks ago so now I am back to my truck. So thanks to anyone who recommended DSM and BFA, if you still have those rear Bilsteins available, how much are you asking?

285's on a stock suspension? the cupping is probably from rubbing. if i had to guess

Well I ended up putting on new tires and I went smaller to see if it was the tire size but it turns out my new tires are cupped pretty badly as well. I put on a 265/75/16. I have the new coilovers that I am installing....again...this weekend. the wrong top plate was put on so I have to wait for DSM to send me the new plates and then I can try again. Hopefully this will solve my problem with cupping tires.
