So today I’m getting my OME lift installed on my truck. The place thats doing it is saying the cam bolts on my lcas is seized and that they need to be replaced. It is going to run me an additional $740. Has anyone had this happen?

An EXTRA $740?!? That’s ridiculous. The cam bolts are like $50. That sounds shady to me....

Wtf no they’re not. The OEM ones are expensive as hell.

OP it’s a very common issue with these trucks. Usually you have to take a sawzall and cut the old bolts, then replace bushing in the LCAs. It’s a pain in the ass and expensive. If they’re doing oem bolts and replacing bushings, then $750 isn’t unreasonable

He said the only way to remove them is to cut them.

Cam bolts seizing is common enough, but the additional price they're quoting you is ridiculous. Since the parts are only $50 and additional labor at the most would be 20 minutes of time. I'd take it somewhere else.

Yea man, I'm sorry but I think you're being hosed and you should back out of that place. Also, FWIW, I think you should drench them with PB Blaster every day for a week before going to another place. The stuff smells like Satan's asshole but it works.

You're right if they're replacing the bushings. @gunny1005 can get the parts for just over $300 (bushings included):

I'd just question if the shop is going to replace the bushings. For just new cam bolts, that's way too high.

They said that the bushings need to be replaced as well

I just went on eBay and added everything up. For just the bolts, $180. For oem bushings as well it’s $410. So if he’s using oem bushings it’s a very fair price.

It’s pretty standard that when the bolts seize, bushings need to be replaced as well. Also gunny has been radio silent, so good luck there.

I'd just wrap some sand paper around a drill bit and run it through to remove the rust on the inner bushing sleeve depending on how bad it was. The coat the new parts in anti-seize or grease to prevent it from happening again. But I get the concern and opportunity to replace since you'd already be in there.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess my only option is to tell them to stop since I cant afford an extra $700

Just don’t wait too terribly long. If you get lifted and not aligned you can chew through tires

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Damn, can't believe they would be seized on a 2015 already but I guess they are using a bunch of salt on the roads in Richmond. When I used to live in VA Richmond hardly ever got bad weather and almost no salt. Unless you are rolling out to VA Beach all the time them I could see it. They are not giving you a great deal but you are not getting hosed. I would go back and tell them because you are paying them to install the lift see if they will give you a little break on it. I mean they are saving some time because they already have the truck and it will be on the lift so they should be able to drop it by $100.

There's a good chance you'll only need to adjust those to tweak the alignment. The shop can do the full suspension install without touching them and still get it aligned pretty well. Gives you time to get the parts/money together if you don't want to spend the extra right now.

I guess I didn’t look at the oem ones. Is that why flattening the “tab” is such a big deal?

No, that’s a different thing. The tabs are what hugs the alignment cam, and causes it to rotate. With those flat, there’s nothing for it to rotate against. A common fix is to replace them with beefier counterparts.

A bunch a cool stickers, a bada ass MetalMiller Tx Longhorns grill emblem painted Hemi Orange, JBA long tube headers with o2 sims, Diff breather mod, Red LED interior lights, Fancy head unit that plays ipod n movies, Also DIY install factory stuff like, factory cruise control, factory intermittent wipers, OME nitro struts with 886x springs and toy tec top plate, JBA high caster UCA's for better alignmnet and dey beefier too, Old Man Emu Dakar leaf springs in da rear with the gear, U bolt flipper, Ivan Stewart TRD rims with 33" K Bro 2's, some bad ass weather tech floor liners so I don't muck up my interior, an ATO shackle flipper for mo travel in da rear wit the gear, also super shiny Fox 2.0 shocks back there too, all sorts of steal armor for bouncing off of the rocks like demello sliders, AP front skid, trans skid, n transfer skid, demello gas tank skid, and a tough as nails ARB bumper with warn 8k winch, I'm sure there's more
2014 T4R. Cut out the LCA cam bolts. Two ways to repair. Press the bushings out and replace with new and new cam bolts, or buy replacement Moog control arms that already have bushings and new ball joint in them. Personal opinion, would be cheaper to replace entire control arm than to pay for labor on new bushings.
