Ah yeah your right, CV angles don't change with DB but driveline does. I had a driveshaft drop installed as well to return to as close to normal driveline angle as possible.

Alright - someone said it already -

    Seriously depends on your use.

I started with a 3”, and within 500 miles (I think; this was back in 2017 for it could’ve been less or a tad more) I snapped the shaft of my Bilstein 5100 in the front. During this time I ran 275 Kevlar MTR. I had ZERO complaints then, other than the truck being a bit too low for the volcanic rock trails/fishing spots I go to.

When the shock broke, I said F IT and I’ll do whatever Hawaii fella does, and I bought a pro comp 6”. (pro comp > fabtech for the 3rd gen’s due to the design. Pro comp has a better turning radius). I decided on going higher cause well, I’m not willing to scrape/drag my truck on volcanic rock, or pay the freight to ship armored bumpers to Hawaii. PLUS, armor will drastically reduce my payload, and when I go camping I need as much as I can.

    Anyway..
The standard kit is fine for STREET use, but my truck doesn’t run the streets (pun intended).
I replaced the front barrel spacers and rear blocks, with a full length Bilstein 5100 shock for the front, and paired that with the OME 888 coil from my original 3” lift.
The rear consists of a custom Alcan leaf pack (650lb over stock capacity, 6” spring - I wanted to maintain a rake while loaded, to keep my front wheels “planted” to the ground as I travel highway to camp/fish)

I ran 33s (285s) and regeared with 4.88 (they didn’t offer 5.29 at the time). Truck drove fine, now my complaint was the stock tune. With 33s and gears, 3rd and 4th gear were forever exchanging names and it drove me nuts. So I OVtuned (OTT wasn’t a thing then). This solved my problem.

As the kevlars got chewed by lava rock, I wanted 35s. So that I did, and I switched to OTT tune (way better and an entirely different argument). Cab mount chop, and a pinch weld anger management later, zero rubbing with my current SSW (used to be called Summit Racing) wheels.

I’ve been driving this setup for over 2 years. It takes me everywhere, and does everything I need that I myself intend to do. The offroading that my truck sees is nothing like Moab - I literally drive on lava fields with steep incline/decline and uneven rock - but it’s nothing like Moab.

I built it slowly from 2017 for my use. That’s something you need to heavily consider. Look thru everyone’s build threads and see what they do with their setup. If they’re dragging their bumpers, guess what, I ain’t lol. But my terrain is also different.
Tacomaworld is very resourceful - although i know you wanna mod the Tacoma ASAP, just evaluate your use/where you’ll go with it and try and pair a setup for it.

I wish I had a photo of my Tacoma offroad but I’m getting older, and I’m not getting out of my truck for a photo….i just wanna fish!

Last photo is my Rigd spare carrier, spare 35, two 150qt coolers full with ice, 18gal of water, and a whole bunch of unnecessary fishing crap…still got the rake and it rides incredibly smooth

Edit: my only gripe now is this thing is a PITA to load fully loaded coolers in and out. Other than that it’s good haha
