Hey y’all. Couldn’t find this anywhere specifically.

Having never lifted before, and not wanting to screw things up. If I were to do a 1.5-2.5” suspension lift above stock, without increasing my tire size(currently 265/65/18), would I have any added off road ability beyond a better ride quality?

My biggest fear is breakover angle and departure angle with stock set up. Hoping I can improve that with the suspension lift. I’m at a point of having to buy new tires and not ready to lift

The suspension lift will improve approach and departure angles. Stay away from blocks/spacers on the front.

Larger tires will get you more clearance.

What he said. Suspension lifts can improve the off-road articulation of your truck.

Yep, a lift helps with approach, departure, and breakover angles.

If you are going to lift it at some point just put 265/75R16s on your stock wheels. They'll fit without rubbing on stock suspension and look a little better with a lift than the stock 265/70R16s.

If you can do the wrenching yourself, you can get a decent level/lift for under $500. I did Bilstein 5100s with the stock springs in front, you can choose how much lift you want based on where you put the spring perch. I also did a 1 inch block in the rear, and while a block isn't a the best way to go, you can do that with new U bolts for $100, or an Add-A-Leaf like the Icon progressive one for just over $200.

Total cost for me was $450 installed myself. A local shop quoted me $750 for parts and labor.

Only way to get the rear diff higher is with bigger tires and or wheels. Lifts will raise everything but that. Best way to improve angles is with better bumpers and hidden or no hitch. Look into sliders and skids while your at it.

Thanks! I have aftermarket wheels so I’m sticking with an 18” tire option. 265/65/18 puts me at 31.5 and I have not rubbed even under aggressive compressing.
I’ll definitely be doing a suspension lift. Likely going with ADS coil overs and a Dakar rear pack.
Most likely I’ll do the install myself as long as I can get enough time to go start to finish in the same day.
Appreciate the feedback, now maybe I can wait a few years before cutting and putting bigger tires.

Maybe some day I’ll be ready to go with a high clearance bumper. But I really wanted the BSM and Rear sensors when I got the truck and I’m not ready to give that up for a new steal bumper, yet.
Sliders are about 30 days out and I’ve added a new front skid. Next year I’ll be looking for a mid skid.

If you're doing stuff that requires those clearance angles the plastic front bumper cover will become an early casualty. I expect sensor mounting will soon be incorporated into aftermarket steel bumpers.

I am hoping/expecting the same. And by then, I’ll probably be ready to do some cutting and replace the plastic.

I miss the factory bumpers that were on my 2007 Tacoma.
