Unfortunately a comfortable ride is subjective.
Some consider this smooth and cush, and others want a stiff suspension with little body roll.

There really isn’t much you can do to make a pickup ride like a car while maintaining its pickup status. If you don’t care about your pickup’s ability to do pickup stuff, then I suggest you buy something else. If that’s not the answer you want to hear, then there are some things you can do to make your pickup more car-like.

    - if you have installed LT tires, replace them with P tires
    - Install lower rate coil springs
    - replace the leaf spring suspension with a linked coil spring suspension
    - replace the solid axle leaf spring suspension with a independent rear suspension

Installing off-road shocks while leaving everything else the same is likely more of a placebo than a real solution.

Yep the stock truck rides great... I would definitely get those tires off for immediate improvement. But clearly there will be a major loss to mall cred.

Thanks everyone for the help. Let me digress I am not looking for a Cadillac ride. I do
Have bfg ko2 load c at 35 psi. The change from stock tires to those tires doesn’t bother me really. I don’t necessarily mind the stock suspension on the OR however I would like to put something better and do a mild lift to level it out. The reasoning for this post is to maybe pull something different from it. On one end people say 6112s ride Cush on the other end they ride stiff and jarring. I understand it’s subjective. It’s crazy bc I rode in a f150 w fox 2.0 and rode very Cush but then I hear some people say 2.0s in the Tacoma rides rough and bumpy. I appreciate all the feedback so far.

The answer to your question is that a majority of the info on off-road shocks used on roads is highly subjective and mostly due to a placebo effect. It’s human nature to think something is awesome after spending a bundle on it, regardless of any rational thought on the subject.

Shock absorbers are relatively simple devices and only 1 part of a suspension system. More expensive off-road shocks have a higher capacity to dissipate energy due to the terrain being very rough. You gain nothing if you never reach their limits. You are better off with shock absorbers designed for your on-road use case.

Yes I am over simplifying this a bit.

So yes ride is subjective. Many times we have people say the same on 6112s / 5160s which are the best bang per $$ out at regular price. We have found a lot goes into it vs just the suspension. Tire pressure and other factors. We have yet to find a truck that rides good on the FOX 2.0 when they are adjusted but out of the box they ride great. Also, platforms have differences. The new tundra is amazing on icons vs all the other options. So it could be that the fox on a certain f150 for you and your taste is great. In the end it's like whose got the best hamburger . Let us know if we can help out we have many options and have tested pretty much all of them. www.rogue-offroad.com

You cannot compare a full size truck to a Tacoma. My stock Tundra rides way better than my Tacoma but it’s comparing apples to oranges.

Yes makes since…. agree full size has a lot more weight and different factors that go into it. I just wish someone was near me with the 6112 and fox 2.0. I’ve just made so many mistake in the past on vehicles and suspension choices.

Does anyone have a solid review on the 6112/ 5100 or 5160 set up just for leveling their truck? It’s definitely btw that one and 2.0 fox.

I’m running 5100’s all around, with 16” rims and it’s just right for me . But I have some beefy AT tires and I can’t feel pot holes at all. 1000000283.jpg

Do you have any pictures of your truck with the bilstein/deaver combo? I have the 6112/5160 ready to install once I am torn between the stage 1 and stage 2 for the Deavers. I'm building a diy tent/camper similar to a GFC that will weigh roughly 300lbs and I occasionally carry a dirtbike on the hitch carrier but I am worried the stage 2 will be too high.

If you buy your Bilsteins through WheelEveryWeekend, you can talk directly to the owner Ian, who can re-valve them to be much better out of the box for your truck/weight/driving style.

He's one of the nicest vendors I've ever talked to, and is willing to tell it all, good/bad/ugly regardless of if you're spending money with him or not.

He was very keen on the new Falcon stuff for the Tacoma, which should be a similar price point.
