23 Tacoma Trail...Hello everyone I am new here and had a question about first MODS to my Tacoma and wanted input from you. I have a 23 Tacoma Trail and wondering what should I invest in first the tire upgrade (275/70/17R) or suspension keeping the stock wrangler wheels until they re done?

What are you wanting to do with your Tacoma? Is this just for looks or do you have a functional goal?

I want to build it out for over landing (so functional for sure); I just do not have the budget to do it all at once. I need to make accurate decisions as to cut down on cost and time.

I did tires first on my Trail. Went with Nitto Ridge Grapplers 265/75/16 and love them...

Leave it stock until you understand it’s strengths and weaknesses.

If you don’t like that answer: tires!

Yeah I fixed my mistype. LOL
I went a little bigger but have no rubbing issues at all. When I finally do my lift I'll go even bigger with the tires

If you are going to change wheels or upsize tires, I would do tires last.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
You paid for the wheels, tires & suspension when you bought it. Get your money's out of them as you get to know your Taco, then decide what makes the most sense for you.

What overlanding items and how much weight are you thinking? That might make a difference in the overall suspension and the tire choice/rating.

2.5” OME lift, medium duty with SCS Wheels at -12 offset and 285/70/17 tires. I had to do a cab mount chop and hammer the pinch weld but that was mainly due to the -12 offset.

Generally suspension first if going with larger tires. Or buy the suspension first and stash when you are ready to buy the tires and do all the work at same time.

I upgraded my tires first and then did suspension. My situation was a little different though because I have an SR5 so the tires that came with it were those tiny highway Toyo Open Country tires and they were completely unacceptable for anything other than flat, dry pavement. They also looked like they belong on a Corolla.

I switched out to General Grabbers within the first 5,000 miles.

I would do it the same way again but I don’t think there’s a problem doing it the other way around.

I also bought the SR5 knowing I was going to upgrade those things. I don’t think you need to upgrade those parts of a trail edition unless you plan on doing legit rock crawling.
